There are some interesting French whites in Lidl at the moment. In fact, Lidl is my go-to for the regions which are otherwise difficult to find.

...

Clairette de die - £7.99 this is a star. It's aromatic and refreshing, made from Muscat grapes
This piques my interest!

One of my absolute favourite wines .... [Clarkson-on] in the world [/Clarkson-off] ... is the Muscat from Alsace. But it's made in such tiny quantities, that it's rarely seen in the UK. I shall be hunting this one^ down tomorrow morning!
Definitely worth a try for something 'different'. I'm a fan of aromatic sweet whites with a bit of 'tang'.
Oh - is it sweet? The muscat d'Alsace is fruity but dry.
If they still do this one it’s worth a try, I keep meaning to go and try and get a few bottles but never get round to it.

I'm uncertain how to proceed. I think that makes the food unfit for human consumption, which is extremely serious. I will probably forward it to the local authority if they will prosecute.
No chance of that.
There are plenty of instances where they have, but who knows how many have been ignored? A little research suggests that local authorities seem more inclined to prosecute where dirty premises have lead to the contamination (but they prosecute under the Food Act 1984).

Perhaps I will feel different when the nasty taste has gone? biggrin

V8mate is right.

If it was (genuinely) unopened, take it back to the shop for a replacement or refund. If you found it in your cupboard once opened and used, chuck it.

Pressing for prosecution is futile and a waste of everyone's time. If you think about how many millions of tonnes of food are delivered annually, and how little is unfit for consumption, it gives you useful perspective.

So you opened it...

Mate, no chance. Chuck it, move on.

That £6 chilie esteves tbh didnt taste any better than any of the ones they sell for £4.. i can't tell much of a difference between them. Toro loco, I haven't found a single one i last the taste of. red blends seem to be the ones I like. sweet, full, but not dry.

I’m tempted to suggest it was in the jar. Set some traps. Siberian Hamsters mating season is November.

I reckon it was just a bit of 'malfunctioned' sugar.

My local store (Edgbaston, Birmingham) seems to have a never ending supply of this despite it not being available online. Great Red for the price.

Anyone buy any of them last time, they any good?

Looking for something to pretty up the shelves and still have a use (not replace my 25 year old John Lewis set)

Notwithstanding that it's a different shaped bottle and entirely different label, the wine you tried was £3.99 - the wine I recommended was £6.99.

It'd be magnanimous of you to delete the damning review^^ you left against my recommendation? thumbup

I've been working my way through the Aldi mince pie range.

So far I've tried:

Blood orange and gin crumble top - sounded great, but disappointing in reality. 5/10 Cloying centre.
Salted caramel crumble top - pretty good. 7/10
Millionaires - best I've tried from Aldi this year, 8/10. Only just felt like a mince pie though.

I was disappointed to find that the Black Forest pies seem to have been dropped for this year, they were my favourite.

There are still several other varieties to try, including one with a frangipane top.
