Waitrose have recently started selling Mahou which is my favourite of the Spanish lagers.
Another one that they wouldn't clean their feet with in Spain lol.

I can confirm Taste The Difference American Pale Ale is a tasty drop, not quite up there with Meantime for me, but its not bad. Also Sains have Blue Moon on offer a around £1.20 for a 355ml bottle. Given its nearly £6 a pint in my local, I reckon that is a decent deal.
I'm guessing you've not been to Madrid!, it's the lager they sell in 90% of the bars.

My current favourites are the following:

1) Brooklyn Lager
2) Bristol Beer Factory "Independence" (though not strictly a lager)
3) Butcombe Blond (ditto)
4) Asahi/Kirin
5) Korev

Used to love Carling Premier when I was younger but don't think they sell it anymore!

Really? God it's awful! But then, you like Carling Premier, so it proves your tastebuds are broken!

each to their own...I also love Carling Premier!. You can still get it, but it is quite rare.

However...I am voting for Cornish Pilsner by Sharps.

Simply superb.

Was stunned to find the stuff that local to me, it's an independent off-license called Eagle Wine's in Battersea and the owner is always keen to get more unusual stock but has found that Kona sells well, even at £15 for a six pack. There's a few other Hawaiian beers that were as good, but they haven't made it to the mainland US, let along over here.

Rich85uk - not tried Lech, but so far have found Polish beers to be a lot like Czech in terms of quality. I think Zywiec was the first I tried, and liked, when the local shops I stayed at the time started stocking it for obvious reasons..
That's my local too, i live around the corner. Get down to Beer Boutique in Putney. It'll f*cking blow your mind. 20x the selection of Eagles Wines no joke.

I've become completely obsessed with Craft beer since about a year and a half ago. 1 Sierra Nevada pale ale and i wondered wtf i had been doing drinking lager all those years :S

My favourite breweries by far are The Kernel Brewery and Partizan. Founders make some good stuff too.

A few real good ones in this pic.

Which Mahou?

Both the clasic and cinco estrellas is "good enough" for a hot day. The Negra is also pretty tasty and a bit different to the usual Spanish offerings. Can also confirm that quite a few Spanish drink it in Andalucia.

That said, it's not a patch on some of the artisan/craft beers coming out of the Madrid and Barcelona areas at the minute.

After reading through this thread it does seem to me that the initial question is wrong.

There is no "good" lager that we might like that you might like. It's all down to taste buds at the end of the day.

This is like one of those threads in the general car forum where someone asks, "I want to buy an estate, which is best?" You then find out after 250000000 posts they are allergic to diesel fumes and their eyes explode if they even look at pearescent paint. And they want a German car after all so they feel a bit better about things. Audi FTW !

So my advice is, that rather than asking on PH, you just drink loads of it

And drink

And drink

You will be a contented man, even if you never reach Nirvana.

Had a nightmare drive on my way home from Sunday Service, after making the mistake of coming off the M4 and heading over Kew Bridge to the South Circular.

Taking a break from sitting in traffic, I stopped off at Beer Boutique in Putney to pick up a few beers, which included a bottle of Brooklyn Silver Anniversary lager ( http://brooklynbrewery.com/brooklyn-beers/big-bott...) - pricey, but good stuff.
