The best lager on sale in the UK, suggestions please
Discussion
Quite why these threads descend into favouring the more 'obscure' but readily available lagers in somewhat beyond me.
Aside from the dross lagers like Fosters, Carling, Carlsberg there are some quite acceptable mainstream lagers around.
I am partial and do quite often buy 'obscure' beers from the supermarket (spice of life and all that) but if I want a lager im quite happy with a San Miguel, Carlsberg Export or a Becks.
IMO there isn't much taste separation between lagers.

My favourite is Bofferding from Luxembourg, but not on sale anywhere outside Luxembourg.
Sardinian beer "Ichnusa" is also good, doubt you can find it in the UK.
Lowenbrau a strong contender too!
In fairness, I know nothing about lager, my preference is almost entirely formed from the memories I have of drinking each beer. I associate my preferred beers with some of my most memorable trips/weekends/stag dos etc!

Doesn't travel very well, needs to be sampled in Scotland.
Estrella/Moretti is piss they don't even wash floors with in Spain/Italy yet price it at £4.50 and every mug buys and raves about it. It's st.
I like:
Heineken
Tsing Tao
Asahi
Becks Vier (whoever said 4% wasn't a proper drink - grow up)
Efes is ok
Peroni and also the grand reserve version
Chang
Normally can find one of those depending where you are.

Beer, like wine, whisky or Cognac should reflect its place of origin and the local traditions which created it.
The best ale comes from England, the best abbey beers come from Belgium and the best Pilsner style beers (on which generic global 'lagers' are based)come from the Czech Republic and Germany.
If 'lager' is your preferred style of beer, I recommend the following :
Pilsner Urquell
Budweiser Budvar (NOT the tasteless American rubbish!)
Warsteiner
Staropramen
Rothaus (my personal favourite).
