Chapter One in SE London, opposite Princess Royal Hospital.

Not bad at all and would be excellent gastro pub if more rustic, could not fault it for price.

That's pigeon by the way

Disagree, though obviously we are judging on a photo here. Always a tricky proposition

Personally think the interior is great, the outside not had enough high temps.

Would not turn my nose up at it though.Yummy.

Used to enjoy going there when I lived in Bromley, though I think it's lost its Michelin star now? The food was always delicious.

Possibly they have Matt on the Michelin star, they do a good night out where no issues and food good and attentive. It's sort of hovering between good and epic though. I think they suffer from building ideals up. I don't want to be damning though, for the price, which was only £120 for two with no wine it was fine.

Another PHer now has to go there for second opinion smile

I live walking distance away (used to drink in the Black Horse) but never been to Chapter one. Only lived here for 30 years.

Been a few times both with and without it's star - it's very good and fairly reasonable.

Yorkies look fab what was the recipe?
Nothing fancy - 3 eggs into a measuring jug and then the same volume of milk and the same again of plain flour. Add a generous pinch of salt and a good grind of pepper.

They were cooked in Mrs9's very non-stick muffin tins, which were pre-heated in the oven at 230c with a generous splash of olive oil (for shame, but it works for me) at the bottom.

The mix was well whisked and 'rested' in the fridge for around an hour before cooking and re-whisked before pouring into the hot tin!

Crunchy on the outside but the right doughyness at the bottom and lots of air in the middle.

It is very local to me and used to be my favourite place to eat locally until it lost its star in 2015. For me it has been steadily going down hill since then. I now probably go twice a year rather than 9-10 times

Cotty, old chap, the fact you can be relied upon to display FEASTS rather than platefuls is one of the great joys of PH.

Excellent work.

Some people have suggested that I plate up, take the picture then share the meal with someone else. But I will happily knock down a half leg of lamb on my own.

Interesting. What warrants a restaurant losings its star aside from the chef leaving? I didn't realise it was something that was consistently reviewed, especially given the number of michellin star restaurants. The lucky Michellin judges must be eating out all year round!

Its the chef that holds the award. Not the restaurant. The moment they leave (or if incumbent) the level drops below that required the star is lost.

Ah interesting. I had a chat with someone about this not too long ago and they mentioned that many elements contribute to a michellin star even down to fine details as proper towels in the toilets and the type of handwash. I just believed him as didn't seem to far from the realms of possibility. I have nothing better to do this evening so I'm going research in to it lol.

Its a very complex and convoluted criterion which works across pretty much all styles of food and premises but IME pretty predefined when it comes to service.

Best experience I've had was in an tiny un-starred place with a 2* head chef and 1* sous chef with their wives running front of house!
