Wife was a bit miffed that Kirsty didn't get heaven on Saturday Kitchen so I cooked my version for her on Saturday evening. Went out and bought two nice sized fresh Dover Sole and some Maldon Oysters from the fishmongers, asparagus and new potatoes from Morrisons, the rest was in stock.

Pan fried Dover Sole with deep fried Oysters in flour, egg and panko breadcrumbs, all served with a butter, shallot, caper and oyster juice sauce, steamed asparagus and crushed buttered new potatoes.

Dover Sole is one of the best fish in the sea and it was absolutely delicious. I'm a fresh oyster with a squeeze of lemon man so have never tried cooking them like that, they were brilliant and will be repeated.

Cracking, not seen it done like that before, so crispy, but with the oysters etc bet it tasted fantastic

Wish I was there.

Anything in tempura batter always tastes really good, my favourites are squid and prawns but I have also done various types of tempura vegetables which are particularly nice with a sweet chilli sauce dip, oysters will be done at some time I'm sure.

Beef & Chorizo Chilli

Nice smoky flavour, could do with a slow cook for hours. Should be good for lunch tomorrow!

So, after this, I decided it was so good, I needed to make one with beef chunks and slow cook it. I done a massive amount, and have had it for the last 5 meals, I even gave a load of it to people at work to get rid of it. Turns out, it's better with mince, slow cooking the beef and it's still a bit chewy. I'll do mince from now on! But, in my quest to vary it a little, as I was getting bored of it, I made crispy pitta's. Which are amazing! I could eat them all day. Bit of oil, garlic, S&P, oven for 10 and voila! Photo is more for the pittas, than the chili...

It's better with a big cut, honestly... What "chunks" did you use? Diced shoulder or something that you would use for a casserole?

Try using properly big chunks that you then pull apart (like pulled pork) with a pair of forks after the slow cooking. I'd suggest either brisket, skirt or, my favourite - cheeks. Brown the cheeks in a pan and then chuck them in a slow cooker with everything else for the day. Best thing about this is that you can call it cheeky chilli.

I believe flank is good too but haven't tried it, and short ribs would be epic but I can think of better things to do with them.

Made a vegan Rendang a few days ago. Frustratingly I couldn't source pea aubergines again, seems you have to be first to the market for them now.

Thanks for the advice. I just grabbed something from the supermarket, can't remember what. I should also get a slow cooker. biglaugh I don't like leaving the oven on overnight, so I just ended up eating at 10pm after a 4 hour cook.

Ah yeah you're looking at 6-8 hrs or even longer for the big bits of meat. I plan to try it in my bbq at some point too, supposed to be incredible.

Decided to have a go at making a curry rather than splurging st loads of money on greasy muck from the local Indian.

Had the window open and a jogger shouted "you bd that smells amazing". Suppose that's praise indeed. Waiting for the Mrs to get back from work to tuck in now, even though I've probably eaten a third of it already in cheeky spoonfulls.

Roast lamb leg steaks with a sauce vierge, (parsley, mint, garlic, anchovies, capers and olive oil), served with griddled aubergines, green beans and plain rice. Really nice.

Thai style stir fried veg with rump steak. Dressing of fish sauce, lime, chilli, palm sugar. Like a thai beef salad but hot :-)
