A little canape I made for our Christmas dinner club 'bring a course' event on Saturday. Filo, Stilton, pickled pear, and candied Pecan.

Just realised you meant beans on the side, over the plethora of broccoli Cotty. I agree with that too! Not sure why I didn't.

MG, we always seem to disagree, beans with cottage pie and steak is to be MooOOOOooOOOoOOing. Fact.

Yep, you can keep the peas in the pie, just have baked beans with it.

Mother always done it like that with beans. I'll have beans tonight with the left overs.

Roast pork fillet with cider, apple, thyme and cream sauce, green beans, saute new potatoes and lightly curry spiced roast cauliflower.

Roast cauliflower is a fairly recent discovery of mine, it's so much nicer than boiling or steaming and it can take lots of different herb and spice flavours, if you haven't tried tried it give it a go.

It's lovely roasted with olive oil and garlic, and then a liberal sprinkilng of parmesan for the last 10 minutes or so.

How long do you roast it for and what temp?

Sounds great, I'll need to try that. On a similar note, during the summer I sliced a whole head of cauli into 'steaks', rubbed with a bit of olive oil and cooked them on the BBQ - indirect for a bit and then charred to finish off. Bloody lovely, and something a bit unusual on the plate.

I cut it into chunky florets, mix it in a bowl with smashed garlic cloves, olive oil and pepper. Roast it at 180c fan and check it every so often, it should colour up and be soft, but still have bite. Check it with a sharp knife. Give it a good sprinkle with parmesan and another few minutes. Probably takes half an hour or so in total.
