Jam sponge and “custard” (L) and “Chicken” “Tikka Masala” (R). I’ve worked out why the curry looks wrong (wronger than it looks anyway). They’ve put the rice on the curry, rather than the curry on the rice. Of course, like everyone else, I just mix it all together anyway, but the start point is wrong.
I’m in hospital again. The food is a bit more than lukewarm at best. It’s all very bland. It’s like the culinary equivalent of beige. I can’t wait to get out of here.
I can't recall exactly what the first meal I had was, but it couldn't figure out how the vegetables had been cooked in a way that seemed to remove all their flavour!
Hope you are out very soon!
Cheers for the good wishes.
This is the hangover from my motorbike accident on 31 May. Last year...
I’m currently having a series of reconstructive surgeries to my femur (all my other injuries and associated complications are long healed). At this point in the reconstruction, I should have had two of three, possibly four, total surgeries.
I had surgery number five last week... we are well past plan B at this point. I have at least two more surgeries to come, minimum. However, I am still (mostly) upright and breathing and am aware there are people with much worse injuries or life threatening/limiting illnesses, so me having a bit of a whinge about what is actually edible food is a bit soft of me, to be honest.
Your “proper” meals look do great though, especially that lamb shank curry!
I shall post tomorrow’s breakfast in the appropriate thread. Don’t start getting overexcited just yet. Or, indeed, at all.
I should also say that the NHS staff on the whole continue to be absolute superstars. Even the ones that aren’t utterly fantastic are pretty bloody good, to be honest. Some of the young student nurses are brilliant and there’s no way I’d have had their levels of caring and empathy at a similar age. They are definitely in it for the right reasons, not to get rich, which is very heartening.

I've had a fair few hospital dinners and I have to say that looks better than any of them. During the longest stay friends would bring in food, I'd use the cafe at the hosp, and takeaway deliveries were a regular thing. It was a while back, to be fair. Hope you're 100% and home soon. Btw, don't eat baked beans the day after a general anaesthetic. Don't ask me how I know that.
Did burgers sous vide tonight. Totally epic.
Who would have thought that something that really should not be cooked that way would be so tasty!

Hold on, that's not the proper video. I have a few spots lets over from my teenagers years but I am sure I do not have that many legs, even with this new generation phone that has two cameras on the back......
I wanted something quick, tasty and healthy this evening so I knocked up a chicken satay salad.
The chicken was marinaded in tamari, curry powder, cumin, garlic and honey before being cooked in a large, covered frying pan.
The sauce is peanut butter, sweet chilli sauce and lime juice, with a splash of water.
The salad is little gem lettuce hearts, cucumber, shallots and coriander.
It's on a medium size plate, not a full size dinner plate, so was quite a light meal.
I made enough for lunch at work tomorrow too!
