Cant Find a Charger when I need one said:
Having met and talked rum with him a couple of times Richard Seale would be appalled at that statement......... drink it man
Have also talked Rum with Richard a few times, I feel he should be flattered rather than angry his product has pretty much created the mass premium rum aftermarket.

I've around 30 open bottles of FourSquare and the same in investment bottles.

I well remember him capping the rrp of his products at outlets a few years ago to prevent ‘price exclusivity’. He’s a top man.

You have some fine rums :-)

Oooh, where did you source the wild yeast and Foursquare from?

I picked up a bottle of the Indelible when we visited Foursquare last year and it's scrumptious stuff - wish I'd bought more but there was a power cut across the whole island and I only had enough cash on my for one bottle. I'm trying hard to save some as an attempt to get my whisky loving Dad onto rum when he visits later this year!
Was from Royal Mile Whiskies / Drinkmonger as I forgot to buy one direct from J Gow.
Thank you - all sold out now. I've just seen Indelible was £76 - I think I paid $25 at the distillery for that one! eek

I hadn't spotted this thread before . . .

I'm a wine drinker but fancy trying some Rum - can anyone recommend a few budget starters (for less than £20 ideally).

I'm aware I am probably initially looking at a local big name supermarkets' offerings. Mixers I am thinking diet coke, pineapple juice, soda water & sliced limes & lemons, keeping it simple to begin with.

Mount Gay Eclipse is probably your best starting point with those criteria.

OVD is very liquoricey - it's a really dark rum.

My suggestions would be MG Eclipse and/or Goslings Black Seal.

I don't tend to drink it with mixers but for the Eclipse or other younger rums (currently on Doorlys) I will occasionally drink with tonic water & a squeeze of lime if I fancy a longer drink. Goslings is classically paired with Ginger Beer & lime.

So . . . MG Eclipse is what i went with for the first purchase - there was no way I was going straight to drinking it neat, so last night it was 50ml with 200ml Coke Zero, chunky ice & 2 squeezed quarters of lime, . . . very pleasant.

This evening the same but substituted ginger ale & lemon quarters.

Picked up El Dorado 15 for $37 last weekend (just under 30 quid) which felt like a bit of a bargain these days.

I remember when they were practically giving away the aged El Dorado variants - now, like so many things, prices have increased steeply...

So - for my second purchase now that the MG Eclipse has been consumed . . . have gone for a bottle of Goslings Black Seal accompanied by some sugar-free Waitrose Ginger Beer & plenty of limes to slice up.

Still not ready to drink anything neat just yet!

Sorry, yeah thats the stuff. I don't taste the liquorice in it, everyone has different tastes though smile . I do love Goslings tipples, big fun off the 151 and the family reserve. Had some Bumbo when boarding early in the year, that was spot on. We had the XO and the banana and they were lovely. I did buy a bottle of Tidal from Jersey last year and that's smashing.

I should put all I've had on here but they don't last long and I forget lol.

I had a couple of months out in Belize and brought back these; Holmes Caye and 1981 by Travellers. The Holmes Caye is pretty nice, but at about the same price as Zacapa XO is not quite as refined. Not tried the 1981 yet. .
