I hope they leave the Diamond Distillery and it's exports alone. Over half my collection comes from that place!

This is my wheelhouse! I've went into the £100-150 price range as it gives you a change to showcase something really well crafted. The 3 below would be what I'd levitate to in my collection for this task, they're all excellent rums and should appeal to any spirits drinker.

El Dorado 21
Diplomatico SBV (Probably a 2007 at the moment but you may find a 2005)
Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve (Any of the releases or even the 50th Anniversary release)
nice, any of those you've tried that are easier on the palette for the novice? I'm trying to introduce rum to a whisky club and offering something that's refined, smooth but also not a punch in the face (too sweet, or too overbearing)

Rum in a whisky club?
Balvenie 14yo Carribean cask. idea
Its whisky aged in an old rum barrel.

This should set the Cat amongst the Pigeons; for an easy weekend drink I'm actually quite partial to OVD!

Trouble is that now around my part of the World (East Sussex), it seems to have gone AWOL, so I'm drinking Woods 100 as a general snifter.
My dad's favourite rum tipple. But NLA in his neck of the woods in Cornwall, so I picked up some for him earlier this year whilst up in Scotland.

yeah, bit of Rum and Cognac for the Christmas tasting - good gateway drugs for the future Scotch drinker!

Got myself two bottles of Diplomatico 2007, lets see if it's any good!

Thought I would post this before I wrap it tonight:

Taken from their website:
They'd have to be single, interesting, with great taste and integrity. Single barrel, no blending, no added colour or sugar - the spirit & expertise of the distiller, is exposed.
SoB Rum is a specially selected barrel of Jamaican origin. Distilled from molasses in February 2015, transported to the UK, casked & aged in an ex-bourbon barrel for 7 years (7&1/2).
We can't tell you the distillery; but they're kind of a big deal...
Nose: Butterscotch, sweet bananas & cherry bakewell.
Made from molasses. Approx 380 bottles ONLY.

Will get a cheeky taste Christmas Day smile

Big rum disitiliery in Jamica that uses mollases. Have they just put Appelrtons in a different barrel?

When at Worthy park in March going through the warehouse on a tour we got to have a good look around. There were quite a few barrels that had had different alcohol in previously. The only one I have pictured is a Maderia cask but there were port barrels and burbon too.
Im sure Worthy park also said they didnt use mollases it was only the bigger distillieries that did.

All Jamaican distilleries use primarily molasses! Worthy Park use molasses with some cane juice and trash additions for their heavy (high ester) marks. They use pure molasses for their light marks (like WPL as in your photo). smile

Even their own branded bottles don't advertise the juice, I guess because the ratios are so small. They do advertise the fact that they have their own sugar refinery / plantation (as do Appletons).

https://www.masterofmalt.com/rum/worthy-park/worth...

They started branching out last year to do a pure cane juice mark (WPL-CJN) but from what I understand it's not their primary focus.

I got a Don Papa and a Diplomatico for Christmas, not as highbrow/exclusive as other stuff on this thread, but I love Diplomatico, and it’s the first Don Papa I’ve tried-it is smooth as silk ,very nice to drink neat.

A couple of years ago, I came across Pink Pigeon Spiced Rum at my local 'cash & carry' and a colleague who originated from Mauritius asked me to buy a bottle (he loved it, with the local vanilla). Shortly after it appeared in Aldi supermarkets for 12-18 months and now seems to have completely disappeared from everywhere! Any idea what has happened ?

The one distillery I failed to have any rum of was Papa Rouyo (I think it's the newest and smallest distillery on the island). . . We'll have to come back. hehe
After all the effort of trying to tick off the tenth and final distillery in Guadeloupe, my wife managed to find a Velier bottling for me for Christmas! We keep talking about how great a holiday that was and even looking at how we could make retirement work there, so I think we'll still go back.

And I bought myself the Hampden 8 Marks! bounce

They all sold out in the UK really quickly but there are still some hanging around in France. It feels like amazing quality and the little leaflet has all the nerdy rum stats a man could need. biggrin

Treated myself to a couple of bottles from Bristol Spirits, Something Caroni and a piece of Rum History in The Last Consignment.
Couple of UK bottles and then indulging my Foursquare addiction with the N&P 15 Year and 8 Bottles of the 2010 bottled by Samaroli.

I was going to ask you if you'd tried them yet! hehe How are you tasting them?

Santa also gifted me a delightful nose and throat infection for Christmas so I haven't opened anything interesting since.

RumCast have an interview with Hampden and Velier on the 8 Mark but I haven't listened to it yet.

I got my samples from a tasting I was meant to go to in Glasgow but couldn't make in the end. Just sat down and tried them myself one after the other. You need to love your esters for some of them!
