Anyone know of any good American style diners in the UK?
Preferably in the midlands.

Not little food court things but full on neon-signed things with luxuries like a car park right outside.

With doo-wop on the jukebox.

Looks interesting.

I was thinking of less wagon/pre-fab ones and more.. you know, proper buildings, but that works too.

I found this one all the way down in Essex
http://bigmoesdiner.co.uk/
But on streetview it's a Frankie&Benny's

For the food I'd recommend The Diner, 128-130 Curtain Road, London, EC2A 3AQ. They have some other locations on London too.
As for the full-on american diner in the midlands, google says http://www.okdiners.com/ with locations in the midlands.

Interesting. I drove past the Kingsclere one today on my way to Oxford (I had never seen it before as I am new to the Hampshire area).

Opened the thread to post up about the midlands diner already mentioned above as I used to drive past in at least once a week when I lived near Swadlincote.

FWIW the midlands one looked the better of the two. When I say better I mean least incongruous!

I occasionally enjoy a burger, onion rings and a milkshake at the ok diner near Stamford on the A1. Definitely worth a visit if you like that sort of thing

Is the Kingslere one Nelson's Diner?
It looks a bit Butlins going by the website. If American and high quality isn't too incongruous.

I've been recommended the OK diner in Cannock before, but I've never been.

Buddies is a Northampton chain, the original one is in an old school on a back street in the centre of town, no parking directly outside, but you can park close by. The original one is better to go to than the ex little chef ones, but they are still good and have parking. In fact I went to one for breakfast yesterday smile

Whilst not strictly midlands, Hickory Smokehouse in Chester is really good too.

+1

Only ever been to the southbound one, the northbound ones are the full metal box thing. Definitely paying them a visit next weekend.

Tinseltown in Star City. I went there a few months ago, and the food was not bad at all, and you can watch a movie at Vue while your there.
