My favourite is Kau Aina, used to only get them in London but my mate has just let me know that they've opened one up in Fukuoka Japan, will be going there a fair bit i suspect!
Funny how everyone is different. I have never really rated Kai Aina. To me they are average at best.

It's definitely not a night out it's an expensive McDonald's

I'm not a big fan of five guys either. The burgers sweat in the foil and all the toppings taste the same because they are all cooked on the same griddle.

I wonder if the McDonalds signature range is trying to compete with Five Guys etc...
I guess so, and they are nice but to compete they need to improve their fries maybe doing a new version specifically for signature meals. Five Guys etc do much better fries because they are freshly made

I was a little surprised to find that the "price" they showed for the burger is actually plus vat.
Where was that? I've been to a few in London and they weren't plus vat.

The image of the McD's Signature collection ln their banners is absurd. I know it's par the course and has always been the case but the Signature Collection really takes the piss. It's shown as this thick, juicy, colourful burger with browns and even a some pink to it, like it's come off your BBQ, when in reality it's quite thin, pale and dry. If they sold you something like on the photo they'd have a product to compete with the higher end!
I have yet to see any fast food place live up to the pictures. McDonalds may be improving the burgers but they also need to improve the fries on the more up market offering surely.

Oi! Some of us have to work in Croydon on a regular basis! I know I know, I don't know who I upset either! I am at least going to check it out though having never been before! Quick and easy on works expenses!
Some of us have to stay there 3 nights a week for the foreseeable! yikes
Go to Box Park for the street food, if you haven't already. It's next to East Croydon station. Wonderful!!
Quite a few of the places in box park are really over rated don't you think?

As little as possible biggrin

No real set budget but no expense accounts here, I'm a contractor.
Not wanting to derail the thread but cheap but good on George street there is the German doner place, Kokoro for cheap Chinese that's good, caribsoul for Jamaican at a good price and rios peri peri on the high street is decent Nando's style take away. The Glamorgan on cherry tree road does good cheap food and Galicia on the high street is fairly cheap for good tapas

bleecker is probably the best burger in london but is again expensive and fatty.
I think Bleeker is crap. Have been twice now and both times been served a really skinny burger cooked medium rare which pretty much means due to the thickness of it that it's pretty much raw. Total rubbish.

The problem with all the London burger start ups like bleeker, hache, honest, Tommies and the like is that they are all trying to stand out in a crowded market which leads to stupid burger toppings and toppings for fries and all that which they try to use as their USP and signature and it just doesn't work. Take honest burger for instance. Their fries are garnished with rosemary. Twin this with some of their burger or heaven forbid their onion rings that have cumin and other spices and the resulting fight for dominance in your meal is just vomit inducing.

rare in the middle is what a good burger should be....
I don't disagree at all but the patties that I had from bleeker were about as thick as a burger in a Big Mac and there is no way you can cook those medium rare without it just being like steak tartare sealed on the outside.

its not a fad, a good burger should be rare almost in the middle. if the beef is a good quality its just like a steak or tartare more accurately.
We will have to agree to disagree. I do not want uncooked food.
A rare burger is nothing like tartare. I like my burgers cooked pink if it's great steak but let's face it most of these places are not that and to suggest that slightly raw mince is like tartare is having a laugh. Making a tartare takes top quality meat and a lot of skill. Get it wrong and you can make people ill and getting it wrong is easy. Medium pink decent thickness burgers are fine. Skinny undercooked crap is not.

Amazing how the humble beef burger can cause so much disagreement with some people raving about a place and others hating it.
