Interesting burger review piece in the Guardian here. Neither Five Guys nor Shake Shack do well, but before you assume it's all veggy/lefty/Guardianistaisms, the winning burger does have foie gras on, which is certainly something I'd like to try. (I haven't tried any of them myself so can't vouch for its accuracy however.)

The iberico pork served daringly pink with shavings of foie gras does sounds very tempting.

Sounds a bit like Chipotle, over in the states its a cheap snack, but in the London outlets your lucky to get any change from a £10 if you include a drink.
Yeah it's ridiculous.

Would get a huge burrito for $7 when I lived in Austin, TX last year. Got back to London and get a half-size burrito with less options of toppings and less tasty for £7... Plus overpriced drink. It's just not worth it.

7 days ago I was in NYC and went to Shack Shack and ( not for the first time) and it hit the spot and still my face burger'

2 days ago I was in Covent Garden and thought , why not? Let me try Shake Shack. I was quite disappointed to be honest. To me it tasted very processed compared to the NYC burgers and lacked flavour. However I did prefer the UK cheese fries as I think they use cheddar for the sauce...

As a MvF and DDD fan I hoped for great things from this thread, but £8+ for a takeaway burger. fk that. You must be insane to pay that.

By the way, it's a fking queue. FFS.

Shakeshack was good last night. Burgers were how I'd imagine McDonald's to taste if they used decent produce and cooked things properly. I'd say not quite as good as Meatliqour/Dirtyburger/Byron but it was their soft launch so give it a few weeks.

The concretes and milkshakes I tried were awesome though.
The prices they are charging would appear to put them directly against likes of Byron, GBK etc though.

Five guys is absolutely fantastic, although at £8.75 for a cheeseburger (In proper Five Guys speak a burger is always a double, a single is a small) is a joke. They're £4.29 here for a cheeseburger and £4.75 with bacon. That's the Fort Lee, NJ location which is the one I go to more often than I'd like to admit.

If you're ever in NYC, also try Steak N Shake, they're all over Florida and the Midwest, but they've opened one here in the suburbs of New Jersey but there's one in Manhattan next to the Ed Sullivan Theatre. This IS the inspiration for Shake Shack. Basic Double Cheeseburger and Fries? $3.99 (£2.60) and their signature burger (Angus and BIG) is $5.99 with fries (£3.90). But try the Chili, the Shakes and also get the Frisco Melt. Trust me smile

I am also quite partial to Goodburger in NYC for a cheap cheeseburger fix, and Dumont Burger in Brooklyn for the fancy burger stuff. I've still not had the burger at Peter Luger's (its at the bottom of my road) but mean to try.

I tried the Four Horsemen Burger in San Antonion after watching man vs food....it didnt go well. Be very warned.

Steak N Shake was my favourite from my trips to Florida and Disney World some twenty years ago now. They used to do the largest coke I've ever seen and you got to keep the plastic container.

Good to hear their still going as I couldn't find them in Texas and Chicago on my more recent trips.

5 Guys is OK, but not a patch on 'Patty and Bun' in St Christophers Place or 'Tommi's Burger Joint' in Marylebone High Street.

If you are in NYC you should do the Burger Joint at the Parker Meridien - best burgers in NYC.

I had a Billionaire Burger from the burger restaurant in the Cosmo in Vegas that had Foie Gras in it, probably one of the worst burgers I've had to be honest, not a fan at all!

I've been to them in Texas before. I think they're only in Dallas-Ft Worth / Houston and Austin though. There's a bunch in Chicago but they are all in the suburbs, I have never seen one in the city itself. But if you are in Chicago, forget burgers and go to Lou Malnati's.

Went to Five Guys for dinner on Saturday.

Ordered the Bacon Cheese for me and the little bacon cheese for the Mrs. I had Mushrooms, peppers, onions, jalapenos and mustard on mine whilst she had mushrooms, onions and BBQ sauce on hers. We shared a large portion of the Cajun fries and split a soft drink between us.

Quite impressed with how my burger decided to stay together. I wish I'd have gone for extra jalapeno because I think I counted all of three slices, but the mushrooms and onions were plentiful. I found the bacon a bit too crispy and salty for my taste, so will probably opt for the cheese next time. We enjoyed the fries immensely, but after getting through half of them, we both agreed that they were over-seasoned - thankfully it's free refills on drinks!

I was blown away by how many options there were with the drinks machine. Tried Coke with raspberry, which was alright in small quantities.

Total came to about £23, which is about what I would spend in the likes of GBK or Hand Made Burger. Enjoyed the novelty but it'll be an infrequent treat every once in a while only.

I'd agree with the Metro! I went a couple of weeks ago with some mates, wasn't impressed at all. The burger was watery and in no way justified the expense, if I wanted that sort of food I'd just go to McDonalds or BK for half the price. A meal at Bodeans wouldn't have been much more...

In the future for burgers I'll stick to either Meat Liquor, Burger and Lobster or Byrons. biggrin

It's inside the oracle mate (rather than being outside like all the other eating places). First floor, just outside HoF

I'm just hoping being inside doesn't mean it closes at 8pm...!!

Still no indication as to opening date

I wonder how many other resturants we are going to import. I suggest the Tilted Kilt http://www.tiltedkilt.com/ Site is probably NSFW.

I've been to the one on International Drive in Orlando. It was shockingly dire. All the waitresses looked fake as well. I doubt it would go down well over here-just look at how poorly Hooters did in Cardiff and Bristol a couple of years ago which is a shame really as the food wasn't too bad and the ones in the States that I've been to (all down the Eastern seaboard courtesy of the RN) were excellent and full of families.

I have also been to the Hooters in Singapore-talk about a breach of the Trade Descriptions Act! wink

yeah, you kind of expect it but are still disappointed...

haven't tried a UK one but i don't doubt it won't be anything like the same as those in the states
