Bugger - should have previewed after the first pic. Just turn your monitors upside down and it'll be fine frown (I did all this on my phone and it's taken ages and I'm gutted about the flipped photos - sorry folks)

Sooooooo...just me, the pooch and need to cook this afternoon. I needed a man sandwich! Wait...no...not that kind of man sandwich...

My lazy-ass sous chef

Some raw ingredients

Fillet steak - ground nut oil, balsamic vinegar. Salt.

Half a bagette and horseradish

Steak in

Lazy-ass sous chef decides to move within about 5 seconds of steak hitting pan

Steak out to rest, bread in for a few minutes to soak up butter and fry a little

Onions, followed by garlic, followed by mushrooms

Slice steak

Lazy-ass sous chef carrying out quality control - approved

Assemble sandwich

Slice one slice up and stuff in treat toy so I've got half a chance of eating undisturbed.

First food post on PH so I'm off to order one of those t-shirts about posting food on the Internet

Actually, every effort on this page is top notch beer

For something so simple there are so many variations on a theme and ways to perfection.

Wife is at choir so Wednesday is my "Home Alone" night and my usual dinner is a quick cook ready meal like lasagna or shepherds pie so that I can relax, watch the box and drink red wine in peace.

She has been de-cluttering over the weekend and found an out of date pack of pepper sauce in the cupboard and yesterday in Morrisons I found a new line of extra thick ribeye steak so this evening it was high speed "steak a la man".

Chop mushrooms and into pan, McCain 5 minute chips in the oven, steak in another pan, sauce in the microwave, all on the table in ten minutes flat, actually a bloody good steak, finished and I'm now in front of the telly with a second glass of red in 22 mins total, aaaaaahhhhhhhh.

With a steak that is fine, they do get us over excited.

I'd like to scoop all that stuff up and scoop it onto one of these bad boys

for a midnight snack after some beers.

Epic

I cut up the 2 x steaks I'd cooked and as there was some left over, that went into a sandwich for my lunch today. A few onions, gravy and a smear of horseradish, it was lovely.

Some of these steaks on the thread, look to be raw in the middle. I prefer mine cooked so its 'medium rare', as opposed to ........well, raw.

(My shakey hands are not down to the excitement of the moment, - I just have shakey hands !! May be something to do with the drugs.....)

Steak is a simple dish, however simple dishes are always the hardest to cook perfectly. Just look at cooking the perfect chip for instance. Frying a simple slice of potato should be pretty easy no? Instead we get more words written on cooking chips perfectly than anything else.

For steaks it is the same but with the downside that is more expense if not cooked "how you like it"

The phrase "how you like it" stirs fear in any steak chef, rather than "as it comes" smile

That's what this thread is about. The eternal quest.

Each to their own but I simply don't see the point of an expensive piece of meat like a bone in rib-eye and doing that to it.

Was it cold?

I'd guess not much above 38.6 degrees (which google says is a cows body temp)

That's how I like it. I took it out of the fridge well in advance, then it had 5 minutes a side on a hot bbq and a good rest so not cold at all. When I have guests I'll leave it in the BBQ off the coals for a bit too so it isn't as blue in the middle.
