Most definitely - clean plate left. Might have had something to do with the white wine, double cream and other ingredients added to the condensed milk.... wink

Long time since I had onglet.

Favourite was flamed with brandy, a splash of clarified garlic butter, fresh thyme and parsley and pan juices served with proper frites and a decent bottle of wine.

Anyone tried and care to comment on retired dairy cow?

http://www.turnerandgeorge.co.uk/the-cuts/spanish-...

Looks like it could be worth the extra, spotted on the menu at Faviken.

Not tried it but turner and george are spot on. I used to work next door to their shop.

No comment apart from the general trend of beef getting far far too pricey nowadays

PH probably needs a poor mans cheap steak cooked properly thread......

I'm sure we are up to it.

Not to the standard of most on here but it was exactly what i craved after some ale down the local...

Aldi steak, chips and seasoning. Even quickly fried the chips in the same pan the steak was in hence the burnt bits boxedin

Yes I had old cow Galician steak, not from T&G but at Lurra (excellent restaurant by the way). Really really good steak as expected, but for me it's not worth the extra.

Saw Richard Turner on Saturday kitchen cooking a beef rib on the bone, thought I'd give it a go!

I've had some of their Galician beef.

Yes it is good.

Not it is not worth the extra. T&G do some excellent regular steak that is superior to almost any other butcher I have tried.
Still got a Galician Sirloin in the freezer awaiting a night the Mrs is out...

Had some of their sausages and they were full of gristle. Hope their Galician beef is better.

Carrots? CARROTS? That's practically a vegetarian plate smile

(PS And the flapjack bites are the winner every time from M&S. Though I have been known to demolish a whole tub of the chocolate bites in one sitting. Very moreish).

Yeah I know, the misses likes them, normally I'd make a macaroni cheese to go along with it! And yes, you're bang on about the flapjack bites, they'd already been finished!

Soo, I'm finally going to Hawksmoor for my birthday. Pretty damn excited.

What are your recommendations?

For starter, either the Tamworth belly ribs or the potted beef, both great, I really like the chateaux Briande there but fillets are also great, they have a good taste as they are grass fed steaks. Mac cheese is a good side, plus beef dripping chips. If you have room then the rollo's are good for desert or deconstructed crunchie bar

I recently popped over to France as my pal had a few bits to do on his house, he'd had a leak & a ceiling needed replacing, plus the lawn needed a bit of tlc, I knew he wanted to get it sorted before he left for a long work contract abroad so, being the selfless type I popped over to help.
To say thank you he made dinner.

Marinated in some herbs

Then lobbed it in a wood oven until it caught fire (& so ended 8 months without booze, but it was a special occasion and it was abroad so it doesn't count)

Then popped it into a slightly cooler oven with the veg & dauphinois

The result

The following day I spent mowing in the sun.....

Which branch ? Air street is nice - I liked the environment of the Knightsbridge one less - too subterranean.

Chateaubriand is a good choice. I was disappointed with a Tomahawk steak I had there - too much bone. Having the big steaks by weight is part of the occasion, but don't be shy about ordering the standard menu steaks. The "cheap" rump steak on the menu was quite nice - had one as a dessert once (after a Large steak didn't match expectation).

I normally have creamed spinach as a side, and some Beef dripping fries.

The wine list is extensive (and a little pricey)... if you're going on a Monday night you can take your own - £5 corkage (£25 other nights).

Normally don't bother with desserts, but their "artisan" cheese board is quite pleasant.

EDIT: Goodmans is also a good alternative to HM.
