The best of the 'Nespresso compatible' pods, but still nowhere near as good as the real thing. IMHO.

Have you tried the Carte Noire ones, they are better than the Nespresso ones.

Same here, however I've just ordered 100 capsules direct from Nespresso; using my first £25 voucher.

My first £25 voucher arrived via email today - going to order 200 Bukeela la Ethipia. Most of the strong stuff isn't much better than Starbucks/Costa/Nero/Supermarket etc but the light roast stuff is really good.

Still deciding over the best Americano. If you make an Americano using a Nespresso, which of the following do you prefer:

A - small shot of coffee, small shot of water
B - small shot of coffee, large shot of water
C - large shot of coffee, large shot of water
D - other (explain)

I've got a sleeve of those expensive pods - the name eludes me though as they're out of the sleeve now. Any ideas how I should drink them? I don't want to waste them in an Americano or cappuccino.

I'm also pretty new to the nespresso thing and need to order some pods. What's everyone's favourite? I don't want an overly strong coffee, just something I can actually taste of I'm making an americano or a cappuccino.

The wife came back from Sainsbury's ealier and amongst the usual st that you generally pick up when all you have gone in for was an onion and milk; £30 later, she had bought a packet of Carte Noir No. 5 pods for Nespresso; 10 for £2.90.

I must say they are pretty tasty and make it easier and more affordable to buy than the 50 minimum that Nespresso demand, anyhow I'll still be buying from Nespresso, however the "cheaper" and more readily alternatives do make it easier.

The Lidl ones are 1.59 for 10 and could easily be one of the nespresso varieties.

I have heard good things about the Lidl ones.

I bought some M&S Colombian Single Origin Strength 6 the other day - they are pretty poor. Burnt like every other Supermarket coffee.

Nespresso use aluminium for freshness - the others seem to use plastic, which is porous and lets air through.

For Americano I run a Lungo shot through a Khazaar (in my case) then I top up with 90 degree hot water.

With the Aerochino just make sure you clean after virtually every single cup you do through it. Otherwise the milk will burn on the bottom in one place or another. As soon as that happens you have to remove it with out damaging the coating or it will just stick more and more.

Mind you I use a Porlex Grinder and Aeropress at work and the results for Americano will generally easily surpass a Nespresso one.

I'd agree that the M&S capsules are gash too. Not cheap either

Ah interesting. That explains why each Lidl pod is individually foil wrapped! Every day is a schoolday.

Actually that's what i tend to do also - although this is near to the minimum fill level which is odd.

Also - has anyone else found that if you use skimmed milk you get a much frothier outcome (fnarr fnarr) vs semi skimmed?
They aren't "min" and "max" - they are two "max" levels for the two tools you have. the lower one is for the frother, the higher one is for the other thing - that just heats the milk rather than frothing it up.

On the Aerocinno you get a disk that is like a steering wheel that you use with the max level for things like lattee. Then one with a kind of spring look that you use with the min level for frothy milk for cappucinno

Yep. I only have the springy thingy.

That is an Aerocinno 3 (I believe) bought just before Christmas with a Krups Inissia.
