I was looking at getting myself a coffee machine as there are some good deals about. I was going to buy one earlier this year but glad I didn't as they are now cheaper, I guess because of blk Friday!

I fancy the Nespresso EN550 Latissima Touch £119 on Amazon & AO, would probably go with Amazon as they have all the colours at that price not just the black version, unlike AO.com.

I have also looked at bean-to-cup machines from other manufacturers which are more expensive. Are they comparable to the Nespresso pod machines or are they a whole different kettle of kippers?

Nespresso have opened a 'pop-up' (it's permanent apparently to the staff) in Watford. Went there on Sunday - got to try all three holiday specials, failed to finish every one but still topped up my collection of envivo.

I really don't get Nespresso's business model. Round here there's 2 dedicated Nespresso shops, plus a franchise section in a big electronics shop, all within about 500 meters. Given that you can order the capsules online how the hell do they manage to keep the shops afloat?

This. Plus the fact nestle have created the 'system', the shops get people bought into it, so they reap the profits later...

I rate my latissima, if you like milky coffees then it's an utter doddle.

The actual espresso making internals are all identical, so it really doesn't matter which machine - more expensive just adds features like app control or a bit of extra sturdiness, not that the cheaper ones are flimsy.

I had a "cheap" one (similar to today's Essenza Mini) which lasted about 8 years. It only broke because the missus forced a capsule in when the capsule bin was full, putting the capsule holder out of alignment.

Now have a Citiz which I'm very pleased with.

I personally prefer a separate aerocinno but that's up to you.

My Latissima Touch has recently stopped frothing. We have cleaned and descaled a couple of times now..... still nothing. Even on its frothiest setting we get no more than a couple of mm of froth.

Any ideas? I cannot see a lot one can do with it.

Is that the ultimate middle class/first world problem? hehe

Not sure exactly how Nespressos system works but usually frothers have a head that entrains air. Is the tip removable? If so I'd whip it off and check there's not any blocked holes.

Funnily enough (or not!) just after my post last night, my latissima has also stopped frothing this morning...

Have also descaled and given everything a good clean, all I'm getting is slightly milky water.

Deffo first world! I will add it to the relevant thread!
Anyway there are three bits that come off the frother.
The tube, which is spotless (but I have not checked if it is holed anywhere .... on the list for later).
The spout - which is spotless. And the adapter that joins the machine to the frother.
I wonder if it is the male bit that is on the machine that enters the frother adapter.
Though when we descale we do get water out of this bit.

I suppose I could email delonghi!

hehe

However, nearly three years sterling service, and likely a small part to replace. Plus the time I've saved not cleaning the aeroccino every time... wink

Does it just not pump for very long? If so, you may have inadvertently changed the milk volume, it's fairly easy to do (just hold down button). Easy to reset, check the manual.

It pushes the milk through correctly and creates the right volume. Just no froth.

I might reset it anyway to see if that works!

There are four parts which come off the frother head:
Tube
Spout
Adapter
Milk Froth regulator which sets froth level, next to the cleaning button on top.

Try taking the regulator out and giving that and the hole it came out of a good clean.

If all else fails you can buy a new top part:

or the whole thing for another fiver:

What do we think of the new Vertuo system and coffees then ? Anyone bought one yet ?

Looks like quite a clever idea, altho the caps are a lot more money...

Just as Douwe Egberts start advertising Nespresso compats on the tv available from your local store....

Haha, even as something of a capsule addict that is quite ridiculous.
