I have a feeling they've just developed it because you can now to go Aldi and buy 'normal' Nespresso pods for bugger all.
I wonder if they'll start phasing the normal machines out in the coming years...
Yeah, they probably feel they can assert some kind of claim some on IP for the barcodey-bit...maybe? Doesn't look like there is enough data encoded on it for there to be any encryption that could be covered under DMCA-type legislation though.I wonder if they'll start phasing the normal machines out in the coming years...

What do we think of the new Vertuo system and coffees then ? Anyone bought one yet ?
Looks like quite a clever idea, altho the caps are a lot more money...
Just as Douwe Egberts start advertising Nespresso compats on the tv available from your local store....
I tried the strongest coffee about a month ago and was not impressed. Was surprised that post the coffee brewing/pressing/spinning being complete the sales rep stirred the coffee despite being black - apparently it's in the instructions. The coffee was ok but when i mentioned it tasted slightly weak she confessed I was not alone in making that comment.Looks like quite a clever idea, altho the caps are a lot more money...

Tried some of the new "copies" . Again , filth compared to the real thing. They were on offer though and worked out at 20p each. Might be OK turned into a cappuccino or something but I drink mine black and straight and have yet to come across a third party capsule that doesn't taste burnt and has a proper crema on the top.

Just got a nespresso machine for Christmas and even on the larger setting the anmount of Black coffee is tiny, taste is lovely but barely a couple of mouthfuls. Used to a tassimo that provided a decent small cups worth of black coffee.
Imagine your simply getting the standard espresso amount of 30/40ml for a single and 60/80ml for a double although I believe the larger setting on the Nespresso machines is around 100ml for a lungo. The amount each button can dispense can be adjusted or if you like a Americano style coffee either top up with hot water from the kettle or press the large button again.

It's an espresso machine. It makes espresso-sized coffees.loudlashadjuster said:

It's an espresso machine. It makes espresso-sized coffees. If you want an American coffee you need a different machine.
, nespresso is of course just espresso, the longer drink setting it has still doesn’t produce a mug of coffe, or anywhere close
You could get an aerochino machine to make cappachinos etc

Yes, although the lungo capsules do have more coffee in them I believe? It's unfortunate that only the weaker tasting coffees come in those types though. If you want an American coffee you need a different machine.
