Does anyone else here think Starbucks tastes really, really bad? I find it bitter and massively inferior to Nespresso and, certainly, the Jamaican Blue Mountain I am currently making with a cafetiere
I think SB coffee is vile. All aroma, no taste. But everyone is different.smithyithy said:
On a similar topic, I got some of the 'Alto' pods with my last Vertuo order, which are about 420ml, so a decent sized mug..
I've had a couple and to be honest it tastes like they haven't increased the 'concentration' of the pod to match the extra water, like it just seems like how a normal 230ml pod would taste if you were add ~200ml of extra water after making it.. slightly disappointing.
I tried the one that came with the taster and felt the same as you. I risked a pack of the Alto Intennso and find it to be quite decent, a nice strong coffee that does not taste watered down. Is it better than two normal ones? No, but it is cheaper. One thing, it may make 414ml of coffee, but ina 500ml jug the crema reaches the top.I've had a couple and to be honest it tastes like they haven't increased the 'concentration' of the pod to match the extra water, like it just seems like how a normal 230ml pod would taste if you were add ~200ml of extra water after making it.. slightly disappointing.

I was in the US recently an they have Keurig machines that are basically Nespresso but for full size mugs. You get the range of coffees, flavours just the same. Seem lots more popular than Nespresso.
Keurig coffee is way inferior to Nespresso, but Nespresso in the states costs a lot more.Back to the topic of pod holders, I finally found a decent one for the Vertuoline pods that wasn't overpriced..

Works great, nice and sturdy. Ignore the 1-star rating, it's from someone that received the wrong item from Amazon

Looks good, hopefully, you will be able to leave a good review to balance out the clown who has given it one star despite not having it.https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D5BTVXP/r...

I've literally just submitted one, if for no other reason than to balance out the overall rating! I posted a few photos with it too which should help, it's really good for the price to be fair.I'm getting more of an idea of which flavours I prefer now I think, Odacio being one of my favourites (blue capsule - Nicaragua / Ethiopia mix). Master Origin Mexico is nice, not a massive fan of Master Origin Colombia though, I'm not sure exactly what it is but I don't get on with the aftertaste of Colombia

Sometimes found some pods seem to leave some silt in the bottom of the cup, but some don't.. Any idea why? Too much water through the pod?
Probably remains from the last pod. Run a shot of water through the machine before putting the pod in. Usually flushes a fair bit of grounds out.I had one of the basic machines on loan from a friend for a short while and was impressed so took the plunge and my "Expert" machine was delivered at the weekend, so the older style pods.
First impressions are very good, loving the autobrew function, just load a pod leave a cup under it and set it to brew my coffee for when I get up in the morning.

A colleague brought me some Aldi pods in to try. To my tastes they're the best pods I've had at any price. Very smooth. £1.69 a pack of 10.
Friend of mine swears by them and also bought a batch at half price !! - I tried one at his and it was decent enough. No Aldi near me though.Podie said:

You can get the one without the frother for £199 I think

I'm looking at Vertuo machines but can anyone say if there's much difference between the Vertuo & the Plus? John Lewis are selling off the Vertuo for £79:
