Bought these from Amazon last week and the coffee drinkers in the house say they're 90% as good as the Nespresso original pods. £8.89 for 100 pods. They have plastic bodies and a foil base as well as the top. The first 30 or so have worked just fine.
I use these at work, they save me a fortune and taste really good. cool

OK; I've never preferred compatibles to the original Nespresso pods but for £9 you've convinced me to give those a try. Gone for the Espresso Intenso as I prefer a stronger brew.

I do the Lungo personally, we go through about 100 pods a week in the office and it’s quite a saving.

I like the Cafepods too, but they were hardly any cheaper than a real pod.

Edit to say, I brought a load of these pods on the recommendation of somebody in this thread but they were nasty and stunk of fish -

For £9 it's worth a punt on the ones you recommended. I usually do a 'quad-pod' in each coffee with 3x espresso and 1x lungo shot to get the 'hit' I want. Usually I find that most compatibles have a good initial flavour punch but no body behind it. The Nespresso Arpeggio make a nice, robust coffee.

My only issue is that's about £1.50/coffee (however this is still a significant saving over the coffee shop right outside the office (excellent coffee though!) which was £3 a go. I go through roughly 250 pods a month which is about £70-80. My justification is that I don't drink or smoke and rarely have things like takeaways so a small caffeine habit is fairly minor!

What's the collective thoughts on the new Vertuo pods and machines? Our Citiz gave up the ghost earlier this year and we've never replaced it but with the offer of a free machine I thought about getting one.

Will we miss the aeroccino milk frother? We have 50 or so of the normal pods that can be given to family but it sounds like a bit of a faff with all the different cup sizes.

I had a Vertuo and sold it and went back to the original for two reasons:

1. I felt that the Vertuo coffee was not as good.

2. No 3rd party pods, so you can't pick up a 10-pack in a supermarket, etc.

I am looking at buying my first machine. A friendly neighbour has let me borrow his Inissia and have since looked at all of the machines. The problem with Vertuo is that only Nespresso sell the pods that fit whereas supermarkets stock the original pods and gives you more variety of coffee available.

I'm not overly fussed about getting pods from anyone else, we find Nesporesso themselves offer good service and delivery and like their coffee at the price point (we don't have more than one cup each a day and quite often less).

Yeah, that's like going back to the early days of Nespresso where pods were only available from them and if you ran out and aren't near a Nespresso store, sorry 'boutique', then tough.

I've also tried the Vertuo and can't see any compelling advantage to it, and the coffee is significantly more expensive than the already-pricey normal stuff. I'll be sticking with the originals.

So the Solimo Espresso Intenso pods arrived today - flavour-wise they're pretty good but they don't seem to fit in the machine very well? Takes a major 'shove' to close the arm properly which feels excessive... Also I feel bad about using plastic pods; I've recycled every single Nespresso pod I've used...

Did a bit of internet research with the wife last night (she drinks way more coffee than me) and we decided to go for a normal Nespresso machine again. Just a cheap one (£99) with an aeroccino again as that’s the buy I like which comes with 100 free pods.

The Virtuo ones look good as we more often than not have a mug or a takeaway sized cup for the commute but the prices seemed daft.

We have an most likely always will buy from Nespresso themselves, the delivery is superb and for the amount we drink the cost is fine.

We have the Vertuo one and I like it. The pods are a bit more, but I like a mug and use two of the older style ones so it works out pretty much the same. There's not as many to choose from by the looks of it but there's still enough. I have three/four I really enjoy and will stick to those for now.

just a heads up but Amazon are selling the Vertuo in white , off at a silly price.

Must be the least popular colour.

Ive resisted to go from the standard unit for a long time , as I do prefer larger coffees , however at this price it was too tempting.

That's the one I had and subsequently decided to sell. I enjoyed how the Vertuo is quite theatrical, and you can make a bigger cup, but I felt the coffee was not as good and it is a lot more expensive.

I'm happy I went back to the original.

It was free with 200 capsules on the Nespresso site last week

Good deal .... £179 on the nespresso site now.

When you look , the espresso size capsules are a similar price to the standard capsules so a smaller drink is available and the same price. Larger capsules , larger cost.

I was actually going to get an order in soon for some more so I'll add a couple of slabs of that on to give it a go...
