The bit in bold is the EXACT reason why they're doing that and pushing Vertuo. Nestle's money is not in the machines, it's in the coffee - and they don't make any money if you buy compatibles, hence the push for subscriptions or 'free' machines etc. It works exactly the same way printer inks do...
I prefer drinking coffee to printer ink though wink

Funny thing is we're used to 3rd party pods for the original design, but I think we're the only ones like that (the US company beginning with K might also). Last X-mas some relations bought my parents a Tassimo and I assumed they would be able to get some decent cheap pods (as Tassimo pods are quite expensive) - nothing happening as they are still protected by copyright or not yet open to fair usage (however Nespresso lost).

Thank you for your message. Please keep us posted. I quite like the idea of the gran latissima and missed the sale in the summer. Sadly they only seem to offer sales on Vertuo. I'm suspecting they are selling off the original capsule machine in favour which is disappointing as the supermarkets and other coffee manufactures do not offer the vertuo capsules.
They got back to me, charged the £250 fee, which is fine, I expected that. But it was that simple, so £251 for the machine instead of £370.

Make a much better drink than my old machine with the steam wand instead of the aerocinno and is far more customisable.

Thanks Alistair. Glad you are happy with the machine. I'm hoping Father Christmas brings me one.

Hi guys, got a Nespresso machine last month just the Krups entry level one.

90% of the included Nespresso pods (10 pack included in the box) failed and wouldn't pierce when out in the machine. They then fall into the waste bin and no coffee.

Machine was replaced and got it home last night and again the free Nespresso pods are failing.

I have tried Aldi and Starbucks (by Nespresso) in both the original and new machine and they work every single time.

Is this a case of a bad batch of free Nespresso pods? Anyone with views / experiences of this?

TIA

I have been using Nespresso for best part of 20 years. Have had three machines and have probably used about 10,000 pods, 99.5% of which have been original Nespresso ones, and I have *never* had any of them fail, unless obviously damaged prior to insertion.

There must be something behind this.

I'd say so.

I've had several pods from other companies fail, but never an actual Nespresso one.

Glad you're happy, but £250 is outrageous for a Nespresso machine!!!!

I'm going to contact Nespresso tomorrow. I would put it down to user error but it's a pretty simple task and my wife has had the same problem when she tried a few times.

I'm I'm agreement that the free pack has some sort of issue, the pods basically get crushed but the foil doesn't get punched like normal to allow the coffee out...

Never had an issue in 12 years. Doesn't mean you don't though!

First thought you weren't fully pulling the lever down, but it sounds like an alignment issue as the pods are crushed but not perforated.

Odd as the capsules are simple uniform things. Let us know what the issue is when you find it.

Edit to add: if it's just the free sleeve buy some more originals and if they work, put it behind you and crack on.

The lever basically jams a third of the way down when it sort of engages with the pod. Then won't go any further. When you reset the lever the squashed pod falls through to the bin. Put any other pod make in no issue.

As you said though will try some other Nespresso pods and report back when I eventually get to the bottom of it.

Are you sure the empty pod bin isnt full ? Mine can jam on a capsule if the empties have piled up.

Thats the only reason Ive ever had an issue, in about 10,000,000,000,000 pods....

Im an Abassador dontcha know.....

Spotted the other day in Waitrose - Illy now do Nespresso pods - might be why their machines were going so cheaply a while back. Was tempted to try some (think they were reduced as well) however I now drink long coffees from my Vertuo machine.

I have been a long term Nespresso user, and we've just received a Vertuo Next as an early Christmas gift (John Lewis deal) from my mother in law. The rationale was that we sometimes use two of the original pods in a mug; I have a large mug, fill it up with hot water so it's more like a long black/Americano. I've just tried the mug sized (230ml) Vertuo pods but the problem is that it's tepid after I add the milk. I'm now thinking a double espresso vertuo pod is the way forward, with hot water. Anyone have a similar experience?

Yeah, just put the mug with a splash of milk in the microwave for 30 seconds. Then let the pod pour onto the hot milk/warm mug.

Hi all! We received a Nespresso Vertuo Plus for Christmas from my parents, along with the latest Aeroccino machine.

We also got a mixed box of 100 pods.

Coming from a filter machine using fresh ground coffee from our local coffee supplier, at the moment we’re a little disappointed.

However, I’m sure it’s just a case of getting the right pod and using the right technique!

So. We both like long white coffees. Can anyone suggest some pods/techniques to try?

Many thanks!

Have a read of the some of the past Vertuo reviews on here and I think your initial foundings are correct (especially against good coffee from a filter machine) I think you'd need at least 2 capsules per cup to match the strength which starts to get comparatively expensive...
