One from the weekend - after a Sunday afternoon with a few beers in my Western Cologne local I ordered my favourite dirty pizza: Pizza Boy "big" with gyros (kebab meat), tomatoes, cheese, green chillis and extra anchovies. Delivered within 20 minutes of clicking "Order". Notice the nice oil stains in the box

Salty goodness
German takeout is always sensationally good, and bad for you!

Never heard them called gyros before but then I am not a kebab aficionado. Mind you I have not had one for years and just found one local that delivers

In Greek = gyros
In Turkish = doner
In Arabic = Shawarma

All are basically the same thing except in Greece you can also get pork gyros which is not available in turkey or the Arabic world because it isn't Halal

I always thought that doner referred to lamb, and shawarma referred to chicken, but both were Turkish.

Now that is a contraption, they sort of griddle them but then cover them and put water in so they seem to be broiled. It's the sort of thing Isambard Kingdom Brunel would have done if he liked fast food rather than making the British Empire great.

Thanks
The water turns into steam which makes sure the top of the egg is cooked without having to flip it easy over.

Not quite. Proper Turkish doner is similar to shawarma in that it's cuts of meat whereas regular doner and gyros tend to be mince meat.

When it comes to shawarma meat I find that the first layer is always the best. Especially if it's been cooked a tad longer, burnt ends style.

Nope, Greek gyros (pork or chicken mainly) is never minced meat.

None of them when done properly are minced meat. They are all thin slices of meat built up into layers. It is only the fast food market Wholesale bought doner stuff you see in crap kebab shops that is minced rubbish and not at all authentic.

I stand corrected. I've only ever seen mince meat gyros.

I'm still tempted to buy one of these and make my own - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361362592848

It tasted fking awesome.

Surely a parmo of any kind, homemade or not, is suitable?

11/10 would eat dirty takeaway version if I didnt live in London

I'm considering a move to Teeside

but it's not a takeaway though, clue is in the thread title. We have 3 seperate breakfast, lunch and dinner threads for posting non-dirty takeaway stuffs. Do people not know these topics exist?

Or a bit further south (in a much better location); the Runswick Bay Hotel does a cracking Parmo Hotshot.

Amateurs. Chili sauce has to be the easy bit, even if you bulk buy.
