There is a lot of money to be made; people who have multiple Dominos/Subway franchises in the right places make a lot of money.
Yes but owning multiple franchises requires a huge amount of upfront investment which is out of reach of a great swath of people. There is a big difference between that and the curry house on the corner and kebab shop that’s the only place left open at 3amcraigjm said:
I’m in Joburg. Yeah the exchange rate makes it so cheap for us. I will be in CT in a couple of weeks time so will check it out. I’m here until April enjoying 30 degrees while you guys all freeze your butts off
I was there a few weeks back for a long weekend, and prices have gone up since I was last there a few years ago, and I think it was about 23 rand to the pound so eating and drinking was very cheap. I didn't manage many meals out this time as I was getting my meat fix on the Braai most nights. But I did try BGR (hamburgers) in Rosebank that I thought was pretty good, and had Perfect Pizza deliver on the last night as we couldn't be arsed to cook. I didn't have it this time, but give the Carribean pizza from them a go - Steak Banana and chutney. Last time I was there I said to my local friends that that just sounded wrong, but they said it was good and insisted I give it a go, and I was proved wrong!SpeckledJim said:

I reckon a summer evening in a town square you'd be fending them off with a pizza paddle if you were asking £5 or £6 each and the product was good.
Can you easily get permission to set up shop like that?
We have one in the summer months in our town. Seems to do quite well but only one night a week and very seasonal I'd guess. https://www.creativeoutdoorliving.co.uk/catering-t...

Similar concept to those Pickwick baked potato oven trailers you used to see a lot of. Always seemed to be doing strong business too.https://www.creativeoutdoorliving.co.uk/catering-t...

Where I am there are 3 chippies, and plenty of kebab/pizza/burrito type places. The same guy owns all 3 chippies, and is so loaded it'd wipe the smile off your face. No franchise, he just has three chip shops after starting with one. Colin's, Paul's, and "The Fry Master".
He started off with Colin's, which is too far away from the pubs to get huge traffic - but middle class suburbia drew plenty of customers who just couldn't be bothered cooking - and near a school as well, so he sold a load of chip buttys at lunchtime - 50p a butty, and that was 25 years ago. And you never got shorted on the chips. The old women (ciggy in hand, don't mind the ash on the chips) who staff it ask you what you want when you ask for a fish supper - "There's cod, haddock, whiting, pollock, or scampi - but we only have haddock, so make yer mind up!"

The guy who runs my favourite kebab place in Blackpool is,I reckon, pretty loaded. Always nice new cars(FFRR I think is his latest, plus performance BMWs,& a nice house,& lots of holidays, but he works damn hard(so does his wife who seems to always b e back & forth from the kitchen) The same guy owns all 3 chippies, and is so loaded it'd wipe the smile off your face. Used to to Doner rolls for a quid but pricier now, but even the medium one left me too full to eat it
No, you open a taxi firm if you want clean money - much easier than being audited every year. How much did the firm make last year... "I don't know, the driver's pay their depot rent and that's all" - and of course, you only have 20 drivers.
Chippies, kebab shops, car washes, need to show receipts from the till - to prove what they made. Taxi places show receipts for as much or as little depot rent as they want, because the drivers take cash and don't need to keep a strict record of it. A record, yes - but when do you ever see a poor taxi driver?
Her Maj can rent a house opposite the kebab shop with cameras and telescopes, but not opposite a moving car... though more and more of the big firms are going legit as everything is done by your app - the closest one to me has 1400 drivers. £70 quid a week depot rent. The owner was offered £1.5m if he got it up to 1500 drivers, by an English firm - but why would he bother? He's getting the guts of £100k a week, has a nice big estate "up in the hills", and could you even spend that much?
Maybe for a few months, then you end up with everything you want, and so what to do?
Snorting coke off a hookers baps is the obvious solution, but there are only so many hookers, and you can only snort so much cocaine...
What a terrible quandary to be in.

Off there shortly to get my food in ready for watching the Super Bowl.
Although the best in Blackpool is the Armenian Kebab house on Harrowside bridge.

Bloke around our way has one, visits the local village on rotation during the week, the queues are massive.https://www.creativeoutdoorliving.co.uk/catering-t...
