Does the new toaster allow you to "Lift &. Look" function that allows you to check whatever you are toasting midway through, without having to stop the toaster, check, then restart (and end up burning you toast if you forget to turn the dial down).
Mine does that you can just lift the toast and move it round if you like and then drop it back down again without cancelling

Yes it does, the icing on the cake. For a non brand toaster, it's very good.

Yeah but for the few seconds it takes to switch on a proper toaster those things toast really poorly

Thats only because the conveyor speed has been set wrong, or the person before you has adjusted it. Normally they are set too slow meaning you have to pop your bread back in, and then it comes out burnt. Nobody ever thinks to adjust the setting. When set right they are brill.

Had a Cuisinart...not great.

Now have a Breville which is absolutely perfect. Takes regular slices, bagels, the lot. Lift and look, easy to clean, perfect toast.

I completely disagree. I actually lived in a hotel for over a year in 2018 and there was one of those units in the kitchen part of the suite and it was new and crap. Yes, I managed to get both sides to toast evenly as it had separate temperatures for top and bottom so you set the bottom lower because the element is closer. I got the belt speed right for the right amount of colour but while it produced toast that looked great when they was sorted it didn’t really produce hot toast or crispy toast which is just experience of every one I’ve ever experienced. I spent a lot of time in hotels in the last decade and if they had a great quality proper toaster rather than one of those it always gave much better results. Each to their own but I think a domestic toaster for the same price gives much better results. Obviously if you’re running a cafe and need 300 slices an hour that’s different

It's refreshing to see one loaded efficiently rather than the one after the other spaced out diagonal slices with a croissant chaser you know is going to get stuck, set on fire and set the smoke alarms off.

They're not perfect but I agree they can do a decent job when set correctly (although I like my toast lightly done so may be an easy sell).

The queue at the toaster evokes much anger and frustration, not knowing if the slice that has dropped is yours, not knowing if someone else is going to claim it as theirs, putting the slice back in because it is underdone - only it wasn't your slice, you pushed in without realising.
All that stress and anger......suppressed, naturally, because we are British.

Haha I stayed at a hotel more stressful than that in Eindhoven where there was a hot plate above the conveyor toaster to fry eggs and anyone new didn’t realise you had to cook your own so eggs were stolen left right and centre. There were many close shaves with fights almost breaking out hehe

OMG you must have been in that Gretna Hotel on the way to the NC500 that morning when Mr 'I want it hot and crispy' did just that!!! Apologies. But no one should serve cold croissants or offer to microwave them. Smack em down a bit, load them on the conveyor and leg it!!!

The best toaster I ever had is 4 slice British Dualit - £150 or so but it's the most even toasting. And you can DIY change the filaments when they bust and get a new timer. The future is British made!!!

I was in a hotel some time back where a young girl put 2 slices of bread on the belt side by side, and her idiot mother told her off and put them in one behind the other, so I had to wait for an extra slice to go through before I could put my 2 slices on side by side. Stupid bloody woman cost me 30 seconds of my life and was actively teaching her daughter to be stupid furious
I kept my cool and merely stood there waiting rather than tutting rudely.
