Well I think I may have found a perfect thread for me!!! I've been a whisky drinker for over 25 years and am always buying new stuff, my favourite current malt is Kilchoman Machir Bay and I'm rather partial to Ballantines as a blend, for a straight out drink I favour Famous Grouse, now on to the pictures of my current stock.
And something a little more special, bought for me by my wife at the distillery at the time it was released, we think around 12-14 years ago, I was fortunate enough to try it at the distillery which is why this one is intact!!

Personal choice, I prefer the flavour of it to any other standard blend, it's what I can afford as an everyday drink and when I feel like a longer drink goes down well with lemonade. Not all of us can afford to drink £100 bottles on a daily basis, I used to think nothing of dropping serious money on bottles but as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate having something simple and easy drinking for a wee dram and holding more interesting stuff to favour, just for information purposes, I don't pretend to be a connoisseur or have an encyclopedic knowledge of whisky but I've been fortunate enough to have tried several hundred different whiskies in my life, several people rave about 16 year old Lagavulin but it is not a patch on how good it used to be, many of the Ardbegs are now better, but it is the reason, along with The Old Antiquiary 21 that I got into whisky 26 years ago, my tastes have changed as I've aged, as I stated for me Kilchoman Machir Bay is a sublime dram and one I truly enjoy, I also enjoy trying to work out which malts are used in Famous Grouse and prefer the slightly sweet, malty and very subtly peated flavour of it, to each their own.
i took the moral high ground and bailed on a facebook argument with some dicks the other day when they were saying how amazing Haig Club Clubman is. Now HC is bad, really bad... but the clubman is actively marketed as 'for mixing'. So this like the horrendous quality option amongst a horrid product line-up. Those fkers were going on about how amazing it was neat over ice... i couldn't help myself, just so may wrongs

Fair enough if they like it. To be honest it would be great to be into it, because it would be so much cheaper!
Had a good time in NYC a little while back. I can recommend Copper and Oak if you're there. Started with a single cask from Mars from the Shinshu distillery, but aged at the new Tsunuki distillery they have just opened. Carried on with the Mars theme by having some Iwai wine cask finish. Moved onto the favour of the night, with a single cask Miyagikyo, before finishing with a single cask 18yo Springbank for the US.
Then took these bottles back with me. The Ledaig seems to be the rest of a single cask that was bottled for a shop in the US (Binny's).

Kilchoman do some lovely whiskies, I've got the 'Loch Gorm' rich and sweet, mixed with some subtle smoke and peat. And something a little more special, bought for me by my wife at the distillery at the time it was released, we think around 12-14 years ago, I was fortunate enough to try it at the distillery which is why this one is intact!!

Strange - I thought the Very Young was nice, but nothing outstanding! It was the "normal" version though, and I have no idea how long it has been open so this one might have been a bit affected from the bottle being open too long?
The nose on the Walter Grant was insanely good. Everything you could want from old whisky. When actually drinking it was a little bit too oaky for me, but still extremely good. They also had the 1968 (Bert Forsyth?) and one of the "The Chosen Few" too. I was very tempted, but decided to leave them for a future trip if possible! Strangely enough the Glenglassaugh's were all almost full bottles, so didn't have an issue with oxidation.
Just arrived home to a bunch of samples - 2 different Ledaig 1973 single casks, a Karuizawa Cask Strength 4 (Taiwan), Hanyu 2000 Cask 63, Chichibu 2011 Cask 3303 and a Lagavulin 13yo for the Syndicate from the 1980's. It should be a good Christmas,

Is 450 really the going rate now for Yamazaki 18?!
I fancied a bottle for Christmas. Not anymore.
It's only £300 in auctions now, or around £350 after commission etc, so not as bad as £450, I fancied a bottle for Christmas. Not anymore.
Could be worse - you could be after the 18yo Mizunara edition that came out recently - only £2100-2200 at auction or so!
