I have just finished a bottle of this. Was supposed to be batch 60 - but they sent the wrong one.

Came back from the Feis Ile with a smaller haul than I normally do.

Some great masterclasses and tastings along the way by the likes of SMWS, Bruichladdich (was there ever a bad one), Lagavulin and Bowmore.

Between the four of us, this was our midweek haul before some of them had to depart the island.

Personally I got myself :

Couple of bottles of Lagavulin Feis Ile - 18 year old
Couple of bottles of Bruichladdich Feis Ile 'The Heretic' 17 year old
Couple of bottles of Laphroaig Cairdeas Fino finish.
Couple of bottles of Bowmores Feis Ile 2018.
Couple of bottles of SMWS 29.244
Bottle of Jura 'The Paps'
Bottle of Bruichladdich 1990 / 27 HB. Having sampled it thanks to Mary at the shop; that woman will be the ruin of me.
Bottle of Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 year old.
A bottle of Botanist Gin.
A bottle of Lussa Gin

I already had a couple of bottles of the Committee release of Ardbegs Grooves so didn't bother with the general release (although, sadly the general release is no Alligator)

All in all, quite a good haul.

To top it all; I visited my cask at Bruichladdich; all is well with it and probably 4 more years until I decide what to do with it.

Oh also forgot - I also came home with samples of all the drams that were tasted at the Bruichladdich Masterclass. The quadruple distilled Octomore at 70% was as smooth as a smooth thing.
The masterclass was streamed live - https://youtu.be/wYaU0InUt3A

Also a few bottles from the spirit of speyside festival, was surprising to find a stock of MacAllan edition No2 in the shop.

They were in the Square every day at lunchtime buy bottles off of folk to auction / sell later. Prices on there seem quite reasonable.

It's the ones on eBay.de the very afternoon that the bottles are released that is scary. The Germans fund their trip by buying and selling.

Nice selection.

As you say it is surprising where you can pick up some Whiskies. Was the Macallen Edition 2 in the retail shop at Dufftown or Macallen?

Well done. Nice choices.

The auction finishes on Monday so would not be surprised if the values rise quite a bit further.

Nice to watch for the bottles you have bought. Might make opening them a bit harder wink

Presume eBay.de is different to the UK when they stopped allowing people to sell their collections?

Nice way to pay for a trip smile

Perhaps not too surprising though. Since it was festival time almost everyone is going to be picking up the single cask releases for the festival. Between cost for all the bottles, and duty quotas (for foreign visitors), it means more standard releases will not be the focus.

It's a great festival.

Didn't make it this year which was unfortunate.

As you say it makes sense to make single cask releases. Can only imagine how quickly these were being snapped up.

Still love a A'bunadh for a tipple.

It's pretty varied. Some distilleries have queues and sell out quick. Others don't, as they're less popular, or perhaps generally have a lower quality of whisky (not always the same)! Some of the bottles are now at the price there is no profits for flippers. Good there is less flipping... bad if you are buying to drink as it's more expensive, even if you are able to get at retail. Some of the smaller distilleries also seem to be trying to price themselves close to the levels of the big ones, and it seems to sometimes result in them not really shifting the bottles.

I was there for just a short time. I had some good news recently, I got a refund for the flight that was delayed, meaning I missed a few of the events. So will use the money for another whisky trip at some point, biggrin

I can imagine the distilleries which are selling out. Tends to be the ones that people enjoying flipping a bottle or two.

It is frustrating when the smaller distilleries are trying to copy the big boys. The prices are just too much when they don't have the big names.

Watched the new Eden Mill in an auction and could not believe the price it went for considering it's basically a new. Yes it's the 001 bottle but.......

It was from the macallan shop, they said it was back in the shop for sale due to a shipment that was going overseas being returned for some reason.

Well timed. I would not be surprised if they are all gone now.

The Edition 4 is out in July so might be worth a punt for yourself smile

That's mental.

A couple of their gins are decent, a couple of their beers are also alright, but £7100 for their first bash at whisky?

They certainly exaggerate their premises well. It's the grubby old paper mill in Gaurdbridge they are in. They hang on to the St Andrews bit too strongly.

It's crazy.

But I suppose if people want to part with that type of cash for a new Whisky then you can understand why other distilleries want to follow suit.

Doubt whoever bought it will be opening it biggrin

There's no point in opening it. It seems the price for the first bottle from a new distillery is quite a few thousand (it's not just that one that has done it of the bottle #1 from a new distillery). Then the rest of the batch often tend to be several hundred quid a bottle. So you might as well buy 2 bottles, drink the same whisky for a lot cheaper, and keep the first ever bottle from that distillery as a piece of history, which is effectively what people buying it are doing.

What’s the chat with going to Macallan and getting a bottle that’s getting released? How do you get a heads up that it’s getting dropped on X day? My step dad was lucky enough to get a folio 3 via the online lottery.
