Drampling tonight courtesy of our local YouTube'r whiskey expert...
A Loch Lomond 20 yr old (amazing)
Bruichladdich X4+3 (rocket fuel! as sampled by James May and Ozzy)
Cameronbridge 36 yr old, the recent whiskey brokers release
The Cameronbridge and Loch Lomond were both tremendous, I do actually (flame away) Haig Club so the Cameronbridge was one I've been wanting to try and didn't disappoint. Beautiful.
I think the Loch Lomond was just as nice however-got to love a sherry bomb though.

i know what you mean about the way prices are going, I was bloody annoyed when Aberlour doubled the price on the Abunadh, but it does look like Macallan are head and shoulders above everyone else with their crazy prices, especially with NAS stuff. There are still good whiskies that can be bought for sensible money though, Glenglassaugh and Glendronach are putting some good stuff out in the £50 - £80 range. I wouldn't touch any Macallan in that price range, the 12s are decidedly 'meh'.
The current Glengoyne Cask Strength is a great alternative to Aberlour A’’bunadh if you want a cask strength sherry bomb.- *** flippers! New Caperdonich and Glenugie already sold out after 2 days or so. And seems to be almost all bought by the locals buying them to sell on. Also seems Chivas didn't have a limit on how many could be bought - some people with 4 etc. I just saw today, so was too late for my brother to grab any for me,
Since it was birthday yesterday had my sample of the Macallan 1996 Easter Elchies Blue Ribbon I bought from a friend/whisky share group. Absolutely lovely dram, but would be hard to justify the £2800 or so a bottle these days!
If you want random notes which could be completely "wrong" this is what I threw together. Nose: Stunning! Dark fruits, raisins, leather, tobacco, oak. Mouth: red fruits, cherries, blackcurrants, plums, demerara sugar, cocoa, lots of oak on finish. Big sherry bomb.
And to "make up" for missing out on the Glenugie I'm now part of my first cask share, Annandale peated (45ppm) red wine barrel from Chateauneuf du Pape. Apparently they will have 6 casks from there available (well, 5 or less now!). Really wonder how this will go. Red wine can often been pretty strong for whisky, and this one's first fill too. So maybe 8-10 plus years could be too much, but just have to see.

Looks good! Give us an update if you decide to crack it open!

Ah right, I know the owners of the distillery but missed the chance to catch up last week so will need to investigate further.
Casks just arrived from France, and ours will be filled in the next 7-10 days, jammy-git said:
