Since they had the production gap due to closure they didn't have enough casks to keep it in production. I assume they will still be ok for production now if they have released it again.

Bottle kill on a 1979 Caperdonich this evening.

Jesus wept opened this last Friday night and it’s....challenging to say the least!

60.8% is too strong imho, I’ve experimented with water but it’s just too much I fear.

Might try on ice at some point and letting it water itself down as it melts.

Might be me, but I’ve just enjoyed three dramples tonight, the youngest of which was 17 years and the lowest abv 50.7%

Strong whiskey is no barrier to good taste but I do fear the sherry butt is to far, watered down to make palatable makes it to insipid imvho.

Saving mine for Christmas, hope I'm not too disappointed... Does it also need a bit of air time, like the abunadh too?

Too much alcohol or sherry/oak for you?

Have an amazing brother who did a 3.5 hour round trip up to Glenlivet for me after work yesterday just before they closed. The new Glenugie (£300) and Caperdonich (£165) had arrived during the day. Managed to pick a few up, plus got a Tormore (£65) and Braeval (£65) too. There's also some other stuff if people want to know. I'd phone to check if they still have the Glenugie/Caperdonich, as when they appeared at Strathisla they sold out in 2 or so days (but were £250 and £125 at the time - price went up after). Aberlour will also get 60 bottles of each, but are likely to keep them for tastings/selling after tastings. They decide tomorrow if you want to check. And since I had blown my whisky budget for the month already then added one of 75 bottles of Glenlivet 18yo signed for Alan Winchester when he retired (Master blender/ manager for 16 Chivas distilleries). And we have the normal bi-monthly and a special release of whisky here in Norway too... cry

Too much alcohol to be honest, it just isn’t pleasant.

How long are you leaving it to breathe? Might be worth adding a bit of water, then leave the glass for say 30min or an hour and see how it changes. I've had some that open up nicely with a lot longer time than normal. And since you're not a fan then no harn in trying different stuff. A friend also said there was a Karuizawa he has tasted several times, and when the bottle is newly opened it is pretty bad. But after a year or so of oxidizing it becomes an amazing whisky. Could try the same here in the worst case?! Or make your own blend to dilute it down?

I'm not local either, just have the benefit/disadvantage of some kinda close, hehe

Just mentioned the prices here in case anyone was interested. I suspect it will sell out quick, so thought it best to mention just in case. From what I understood/heard it's the second last Glenugie bottling ever. Not sure if there is another cask, or since there was 300 bottles exactly then they might have split the cask and will sell the rest later as a special last ever bottling from Glenugie distillery.

Speaking of Macallan, unless there's a last minute spike in bidding, it looks like these are going to flatline at well under £2k...

https://www.whiskyhammer.co.uk/auction/current/q-e...

... which doesn't bode well for next month's auctions when everyone and his dog will be flipping theirs. Meh, I might have to wait a while and try again in the new year. I posted it on a couple of FB groups earlier today, but only one offer of £1k so far, which won't make me feel anywhere near smug enough. whistle

Heh, yep. Been offered £1500 by a chap in th UK, and a possible offer of £2k from someone in Poland. I have told him I won't ship outside of UK, but he says it could be shipped to Glasgow or Portsmouth. I assume he has relatives or friends here, but I'm slightly nervous giving my bank details out willy nilly.

PayPal mate, easy and safe.

I wouldn't go handing my bank details out - especially if they're English wink
