I saw Aldi have there Christmas Reserve in store, any one tried it?

Inver House apparently...
Scuse? Inver House is a grouping - Pulteney, Balblair, Knockdhu, Speyburn and Balmenach
Of these only Speyburn and Balmenach are Speyside, the others are all Highland. So is this really a Balmenach or Speyburn?

I'm going to give it a miss this year i think. £50 buys a pretty decent bottle with a known origin! I may weaken if I see it in store though...

That's what I'm told from someone in the industry.

There's always rampant speculation as to the source of these bottles.

It's almost impossible to get definitive proof.

In the final analysis, you either like it or you don't.

£50 for 30 year old single malt, I think I'll give it a go...

Fair point, but it depends on what quality of cask it's spent 30 years in. Last year's was a 29, and was ok for £40. £50? Not so sure. A Glendronach 15 is only a bit more than that, and is a cracker.

Agree last years was pretty ok and fine for £40, I bought a few and drunk them over the year.

Re Glendronach 15yo revival, I got a couple of those on the recommendations here, pretty good at £60, but tried it back to back with a Glenfarclas 15yo and it's no better imho and that's £48...

I think that's the danger point with an Aldi £50 whiskey, and I'm actually fairly certain it'll be good.

But at £50 there is simply too many other favourites around that price point that I know I love.

Had a dangerous hour to kill at Glasgow airport recently and ended up going for this - new to me.

Smoky, nutty and sweet, I think.

I still haven't been converted to peat. Maybe one day.

I'm going to the Leicester whisky festival tomorrow night with a friend who has considerably deeper pockets than me. Hopefully I won't wake up on Sunday feeling both rough and skint! Looking foward to it though, we've booked for a masterclass of whisky and cheese matching with Glengoyne. lick

Interesting, not tried it yet, reading the reviews it seems to be the least sherried aberlour out there hence the least aberlour aberlour! Not an issue per se, I will give it a go and decide for myself..

Had a bottle last year, lovely dram, as you say the mix of nutty and smoke makes it a lovely thing to drink!!!

Well, actually, I do like the odd smoky whisky. Glenglassaugh Torfa, Benriach 21 Peated, some Benromachs etc, it's the Islay peat with it's TCP/medicinal taste that I dislike. hurl

i think many people have a Laphroaig and hate it, then go on to assume they are all like that, which they aren't. Personally I don't like Laphroaig but I do like Ardbeg so figure that one out!

I agree. I'm not a massive fan of Laphroaig either, but I do love my Islay.

To be fair...… I tried a belter of a Ardbeg once and I swear to God, I thought my time was up.

I then tried the Devil Cask 2 and it wasn't that bad at all....
