Absolutely crazy price rises. Who do they think is going to spend £500 on the 25 yo? I've purchased another 1991 and 2000 for drinking but I'm wondering if another couple of the 1991 are worth it to sit on for a few months.
eek

That's insane! Surely the whole thing has to start creating problems with demand, as people just go to other drinks/ can't justify the cost of stuff like this.

They might be thinking if Macallan can sell barely legal whisky for £100 a time by putting it in fancy packaging and claiming it's a limited edition then people will pay even more for something with some actual history. The owners have done a similar though less extreme relaunch with Old Pultney.

Very much so, but Mortlach showed you can get it very wrong. I cannot see almost anyone buying the 25yo. £500 buys you lots of great whisky, so the hardcore drinkers are going to buy other stuff instead. And the premium end is unlikely to buy it because very few have heard of Balblair, so you're not going to be able to show off by ordering it.

Given Old Pultney is £270, Balblair is £500 then is it going to be £750 for anCnoc when they revamp?! wink

There seems to be few who are trying to go "super premium". Fettercairn is now vastly overpriced for bland blending fodder and Whyte and Mackay have even tried to push Jura upmarket.. Tobermoray/Lediag also come to mind.

Current auctions are full to bursting with Game of Thrones bottles, so only one thing for it. drinkbiggrin

Any good?

For the avoidance of doubt - I’ll not be touching it!

Not bad at all actually! A little thin on the arrival, but then the peat flavour comes jogging in followed by quite a bit of sweetness. The peat's not overly medicinal really, and makes a nice change from my usual 'go to' sherried speyside & highland choices.

I'm keeping my eye on the auctions, there's so many on there that some might not even reach RRP - you never know!

If anyone is interested in a bargain and lovely Sherry Blend, this is fantastic.
Normally a bargain at £32 in Waitrose/Amazon, currently only £25.49 on Amazon.

Dave Broom reviewed this in April 2018 and gave it 87/100, which is a pretty good score from him.

I don't normally go for blends (apart from the odd Compass Box, and a bottle or two of JW Green Label), but this is exceptional - to me anyway.

A friend opened a bottle of this, and just tried my sample now. Really cool history. However history is probably the best thing, it's a weird "whisky" I'd have to say! Not recommended for drinking I'd have to say - at least not more than a test!

the scottish malt whisky society on queen street? they have a very extensive selection of whisky!! although they don’t sell all the whisky under its normal name, every bottle is given a number and you/ bar tender picks based on tasting notes etc....... but if you have a quick google you’ll find out what whisky is what number.

A few that I've been to and would recommend - Amber Whisky Bar at the Scotch Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile, the Black Cat on Rose Street, the Albanach on the Royal Mile.

Whisky Bar - Balmoral Hotel & Usquabae (I live in Edinburgh, these are my recommendations).

I'd try and stay away from the Royal Mile - it's tourist prices. One shop has a Macallan 30 sherry for sale, £6.5K laugh

In other news, I popped into TWE yesterday in London to inquire about arranging a PH tasting night, as it's been a few years...

Any decent whisky (or bourbon, etc) deals floating around the supermarkets for easter?

I've been to asda and they had 1litre jamersons for £22. (with 70cl ones costing 50p more lol)

Tamnavulin is quite a popular one on here. that's down from £32 to £20 in asda (70cl).
