Glad the tasting went so well! Hope the next morning was just as good...!

Any recommendations on where to sell high value whisky?

I have a bottle of this incoming soon: https://scotchwhisky.com/magazine/latest-news/2760...

As much as I'd like to, at circa £5k, I can't justify drinking it! drink

Auction - whiskyauctioneer, scotchwgiskyauctions etc. I suspect it will be closer to 1-2 grand though, in that quite a lot of bottles (most of which will likely be sold straight away), a blend (rightly or wrongly less people interested) etc.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps worth hanging on to for a few years then? scratchchin

Scottish Whisky Auctions are good to sell Whisky. I sold some Hibiki 12 70cl 17 and Hakushu 12 and 18 at their last auction. Process was painless although putting over £1000 of Whisky in the DHL post was my main concern. If you were selling your £5000 bottle I would consider driving to Glasgow to hand it over

Possibly - over recent years that would have been a good thing. But hard to know going forward - distilleries are expanding production, the US tariffs have started, and Brexit may add a big tax lump onto stuff going to the EU. So probably more risk to the downside - at least in the shorter term. Plus at some point the bubble has to pop - but I keep being surprised by how long it is going, so who knows?!

I know what you mean...it did arrive via DHL though. I think I may drive up and make a long weekend of it... Perhaps visit a distillery or 3.

How long does it take to sell on the auction sites? From sending them your bottles to money arriving in your account.

Has anyone tried any of the "we buy your whisky" services?

With Whisky Auctioneer the money's arrived in my account within a couple of weeks of the auction ending.

Usually it's around 1/2 month before auction starts as deadline for registration. Then a week and 1/2 for auction. Then a few weeks for payment. So minimum 1 and 1/4 months or so?

I only browse this thread occasionally so apologies if I’ve missed the discussion on the above...!

Blended Irish whisk(e)y is not normally something I entertain at all but, it was entertainment that spurred me to buy a bottle to try! Cheap at £25.

My opinion... surprisingly OK. It’ll never be the connoisseurs choice but it’s an easy drinking blend, fine on its own or with a few cubes of ice or even a mixer for a long drink.

Won’t buy another bottle but it’s the fun of trying to try them all eh.

Bought just 3 bottles this year, as yet not opened any of them. Noah's mill bourbon at 57.2 % . Pikesville 6 year old Rye Whisky at 55% , and last but not least , Talisker 15 , at 57.3 %

Thes are the first whiskies I have bought for some years, having thrown a hissy fit at Diageo's opportunistic price hikes some years back. It's done me no harm, having been slowly going through my stash, opening bottles bought up to near 20 years ago.

Will be interesting to see what I make of the above 3. I do like Rye whisky, having had High west Rendezvous rye , and Whistlepig in the past, very easy drinking. Talisker has always been a hobby horse of mine , ad have high hopes of Noah's Mill. We shall see.

I want a bottle of Deanston Bordeaux. Don't suppose anyone has seen any anywhere?
I wish someone would set up a rolling ebay type site for whisky rather than the current short date stuff. Makes it a nightmare to find stuff.

I opened a bottle of 1978 singleton last week after a heavy night. Tasted horrendous. Wish i had left it in the cupboard.

I drank mine neat. I never use a mixer, and rarely use water, and then reluctantly. You do get the odd whisky, which greatly benefits from water (Highland Park 12, as example) But I've always held the view that if such is needed, then the distillers are doing something wrong.

Yeah I spotted that and then read their reviews that said they take money for non stock items and it's a pain getting it back. Can't be done with the risk when there's no paypal checkout.

Thanks for looking though mate appreciate it smile

No problem. smile Might be worth keeping an eye on the auctions to see if one pops up?
