It looks like the 23yo was the better tasting Port Ellen according to whiskybase sadly for you!
I tend to find I notice less of the improvement on ‘scores’ for what people call better peated casks in general, compared to say a sherry cask - at least if it’s still got a lot of peat in it. But if it’s mostly been filtered away a bit of peat on an older cask can do wonders.

No idea why I didn't think of checking WhiskyBase first. I'll definitely do that next time.I tend to find I notice less of the improvement on ‘scores’ for what people call better peated casks in general, compared to say a sherry cask - at least if it’s still got a lot of peat in it. Just discovered Whisybase off the back of the posts above, and spent 20min inputting my current collection. Quite a surprising amount of open whiskies at the moment.
Thanks for the heads-up, because I've been looking for something like this to track prices on the closed bottles for a while.
Is there a way to connect buyers and sellers that I'm not seeing? There are a few bottles in my wishlist that are in plenty of collections.

There is a few selling things there. The first is the shop, which is like any other online shop. The second is the marketplace, where people can list their own bottles for sale and others can buy them. I've never used it to know the details of how it works though, as most is overpriced even compared to auction. You can just message people directly (click on their name, think there is an option there although some will have the setting that you can only be messaged by a friend so it won't work for everyone).
Just be aware normally the WB estimated prices are wild as it is based on what is available. So anything ok value goes super fast and is removed, so it's only the insanely overpriced stuff that stays and so the prices are way too high. You sometimes get the other way, which is where a bottle is very rare and so the last time it had a price was when it was far lower than the real market price - so it might show for say £90 when it's now £500. This is less common though.
WB is very nice for keeping track of your bottles, tasting notes and purchase prices, but don't use it for the current value of your collection - it'll be far too high almost certainly.

I’m sure I read about White Peak Distillery on here? But I can’t see where I read it now.
Anyway I had a look at their website, signed up for the notification of the next batch going on sale and it was this morning.
Got the email at 8.09 (while driving to work). Got in, clicked on the buy-now link and it would appear all 987 bottles are sold out! How quick off the mark do you need to be to buy this sort of stuff?
It’s a new venture, and I realise it was always going to be limited availability, but it’s not exactly vintage, yet 1000 bottles selling out in an hour?

It might be a new venture in a corner of a rather insalubrious half abandoned industrial estate but they certainly seem to know what they're doing, the reviews are very good indeed. It's just down the road from me, I might pop down later as when the first lot sold out online they still had stock in the shop.Anyway I had a look at their website, signed up for the notification of the next batch going on sale and it was this morning.

In the shop from 11am tomorrow so it says on the website, no reservations or pre order, first come first served. Good luck
I noticed that on the website, but I have a hospital appointment I absolutely definitely can’t miss tomorrow at 10.30am (my wife’s 12 week antenatal scan!!)I might drive down there as soon as we’ve finished if I’m out early, but in this case I think I might miss out! Not to worry - priorities and all that
Edit: good luck getting a bottle yourself

I’m one of the lucky few who managed to get a bottle on line, as I’d signed up with their email distribution, but I’m still staggered that all on-line orders were sold out within 10mins according to comments on their Facebook page. Be interesting to see just how good it is when the bottle turns up next week!Anyway I had a look at their website, signed up for the notification of the next batch going on sale and it was this morning.

All of Arbelour's bottlings are made from barley grown within a 15 mile radius of the distillery. This particular bottling is also 100% first fill ex bourbon American white oak, bottled at cask strength and is, excuse the expletive, fking stunning to drink.

Huge fan of Aberlour, and that one's a cracker. I did a tasting there last summer, and didn't have a single bad drop.Edited by CardShark on Friday 1st April 00:52

There's a lot of people automatically monitoring the different websites with bots, which refresh say every 30 seconds, and if there is new bottles it sends an alert to the person. Anything that clearly will make a profit gets hoovered up immediately and tends to be sold out in less than a minute. There's also groups with thousands of people who share links once they see them, share ballot links and so on, again meaning a lot of the desirable bottles go to the same people, as it's impossible to beat them with a random refresh on a site occasionally, and the mail sent by the company is way too late too. For ballots some of them have software which enters with loads of different email addresses, meaning a far higher chance of them winning too.
The only way past this is to either not care about the "desirable" bottles, be a very good customer of a local store that don't put their chase bottles online, or join these sites/get your own bots (makes not much sense if you just buy a few bottles to drink).
