I've registered. It's optional purchase if you're selected. 611 bottles though so not rare rare. I'm estimating a modest profit - maybe sell for £1500? £650 purchase IIRC
I've registered as well. £650 seems a bit strong for a 16 year old, but I doubt I'll be successful anway, haven't done well in a ballot for ages... NRS said:
The recent Ardbeg SCs tend to go more about the £900-1000 I think, rather than £1500 (unless you perhaps get an early bottle to auction).
Problem also could be, that immediately after the ballot we might see half of the 611 bottles up for auction all at the same time, thus diluting the market and driving the auction price down. 900, 800, getting close to purchase price. Stock control is important for an auction. So it's a fairly hefty wager for the flip. You could be stuck with a £650 betting chip, waiting for the prices to climb again.
Or you drink the chip, so to speak.

they clearly want to head in the same direction as the macallans of the world, but they're not quite there yet.
The irony is that they don't quite have the same pedigree/reputation but (personally speaking) have generally the better tasting whiskies. Whilst Macallan are still trading on their reputation, whilst not really being that deserving of it any more.jammy-git said:

That was good fun, lot's of nice Whisky chat in the queue. They must have held back a fair stock for the shop (although sold out on line), easily a couple of hundred queuing.
Just a quick heads-up. After missing out on the last lot of White Peak whisky, they’re selling another batch online today. They don’t say exactly when, other than it’ll be after 6pm. Not sure why, but I got an email a week or so ago telling me. I’ll give it a go and see if I have any better luck this time. Otherwise I might take a trip down to Matlock tomorrow. I would’ve gone last time but we were at hospital for 12 week pregnancy scan at exactly the same time (and I thought it might go down badly if I said I needed to make a 90min round trip to go and buy a bottle of whisky )

I just got caught up in the excitement of the festival special releases. A tale as old as time itself.
The one that really excites me is the Friends of Laddie special, which was a very limited release done on the quiet. Sadly it was limited to a single bottle per person.
I got very carried away with the Lagavulin release, buying 4 bottles, only to head down to a tasting event with the legendary Ian McArthur and listen to him tell us all how much he hated it. Great...

Had some friends over for a BBQ last weekend, and to celebrate the good weather we sat in the garden until the early hours drinking whisky.
We opened one of the Lagavulin festival special bottles, and got the opportunity to do a back-to-back with the standard 16 and the Distillers Edition. You can definitely tell that the festival bottle is a younger dram, but much of the harshness that I'd worried about after drinking it at the distillery seems to have been in my head. Even so, the Distillers Edition is a phenomenally smooth drop - like a marriage of the best of Highland and Islay in a bottle.
Could anyone recommend a good “starter” Islay for c.£35ish at all, please? I’m usually a fan of Speysides, and and having recently tried Highlands and a Cambletown, I really liked them too. (Glen Scotia double cask is my new fave). As a result I’d like to try an Islay, just one that won’t blow my brains out!

This one is really smoothe. It’s not like most of the other islays I’ve tried (Laphraoig, Lagavulin, ardbeg), but it is an Islay single malt:It’s £10 over your budget but one of the nicest flavoured whiskies I’ve had in a long time.
I’m crap at describing flavours, but I suppose I’d say it’s got all the Islay flavours (Smokey, peaty, salty seaside stuff?) but just toned down about 30% and with a much smoother drink as a result. That might not really be a great explanation; if you look at the few reviews there are of this whisky on MasterOfMalt website, they explain it much better than I can. Also it doesn’t have that smell/taste of antiseptic/tcp/plasters that can make Islay whisky a bit hard going!
Anyway, I’ve just ordered another bottle after finishing the one I got for Christmas a few weeks ago. It’s good.

I was going to pop over today and pick up a #3 but at £60 I'm not too fussed, I think my money is better spent elsewhere as far as whisky is concerned. This stuff is novel and it's not really overhyped, but I can get two bottles of something else on a par imo.

Slightly off-topic but I've been asked if I recognise this whisk(e)y from the label.
While I'm sure I've seen it, and probably tasted it, I'm struggling to remember what it is - the only clues are the distillery was founded in the 1800's and has a name ending CH. Any ideas??
Maybe late with this - but that's Singleton 12 year. Slow Batch Distilled. Being specific it's their Glen Ord.While I'm sure I've seen it, and probably tasted it, I'm struggling to remember what it is - the only clues are the distillery was founded in the 1800's and has a name ending CH.
