A tip for visiting the cooperage... there's a road up the back of the place where you can get cracking views of the barrels piled up in their yard. While you can wander around it, there's plenty of space to pull up near their lorry yard entrance and take some pictures / have a smell if the wind is blowing in the right direction.
I really enjoyed it when I visited the cooperage a year or two back. Discovered a a few barrels lurking outside Glenallachie this summer as well.
I think I'm going to go in halves with a good mate on a Bunnahabhain cask, which has currently done a year in a PX Barrique, so we're not going to be seeing it for a while. I'm going to go and pick up a bottle of some Bunnahabhain PX just to be sure, but I'm 99% confident that it's a bit of me.
This is only the second cask I've ever (part) bought, and I was drunkenly persuaded into the last one at the Feis Ile open day at Bruichladdich. Keen for the thoughts of those who've done the same.

Phwoar! I bloody love a sherried Islay.I was in the cigar room at the Connaught a couple of weeks ago with some friends, and was really disappointed with the whisky selection. It was basically the sort of stuff that gets sold on brand, rather than anything particularly interesting. The bartender in the room mentioned that they'd "specially selected" the whiskies on the menu for the room (more than likely for the type of people who go there), and that they had a wider menu of drams for the bar outside.
Thankfully they had a Uigeadail on the menu, which was a great accompaniment for a good cigar. The chap said that they don't typically recommend Islay whiskies in the cigar room, which I sort of understand, but that he'd actually never tasted a sherried Islay. A quick drop later, and he was an instant convert.

really interesting to see what type of casks they are playing with
Next time you're round that way, take a look. The gates were open when we went past. X marks the spot.
I know the area well - looked at some house plots down some of those roads

Bit of an odd/disjointed 'flight', but I just grabbed three that I fancied comparing this evening.
The Brackla port finish is a real rarity (No 51/221), and much more delicate than the others. The Milroy's/Eadie Mannochmore 13 is one of my favourite Speysides at sub-£100. And the Ardbeg is a great slap in the face to finish with.

Just received an email from Macallan punting the Harmony Amber Meadow
Readily available in the 'online boutique'. Good to see the demand for their NAS rubbish has gone.

More batsttery from ardbeg. Ardbeg rollercoaster. Two old whiskies. Sounds good. 1981 from the year the distillery closed, then 1989 from the year it reopened. Ok cool. What’s the price you say. Must be a few hundred quid. Poss less than a thousand but maybe not.
Eighty five grand.
Ardbeg charge £500+ for a less than 10yo single cask, no way it would below several thousand quid. But it is a pretty special price even for them. I'd have guessed closer to £15-20k. Eighty five grand.

I guess if you really like Ardbeg (I'm a bit cool on most of their stuff), then it's a case of "find another". If you really like Ardbeg, these are two bottles which are intrinsic to their (quite interesting) history.Eighty five grand.
Only they can decide if the market is big enough to justify that price. For me, it's a bit mad.
