Yep. Not blown away, but it's a nice dram. Really long finish, and quite a citrus hit.
Mmmm. You're not really selling it to me. I've got too many open at the moment so won't open this one yet.
I picked up a bottle of Aldi's 28 year old Speyside and I'm intrigued to see what it's like so that'll be next to be opened.
I suppose given the hype around Jim Murray I was expecting to be amazed by how great the whisky was going to be. It's nice, but given the price tag it's no better than I really expected.
It's well worth trying, but I might give one of the younger Glen Grant's a go.
I've never bothered with Jim Murray's book, but the opportunity for this came up at a sensible price, so I thought I'd try it.
Just clearing out a cupboard with odd bottles of whisky and found this, it was already open with just a few scoops taken out, probably bought for me at christmas some 12 odd years ago.
Checked it out on the internet and couldn't believe that it's listed anywhere from £104 for the 1992 to £179 for the 1987/89.
Anyway i'm sat here having a a few scoops and enjoying it, but I wonder how much it was when it first hit the shelves.

i don't believe there's a distillery by that name on Islay... wonder who produces it for Aldi? Does it say on the label?
Bit of a secret apparently but online speculation seems to settle on Aldi dealing with Dalmore or Fettercain?ETA -neither of which are Islay distilleries of course but the limited edition nature of this suggests Aldi chats quietly to any distillery with a batch of barrels they aren't 100% happy with for a midnight flit to a bottling plant with Glen Marnoch labels.

I'm not allowed to buy too much whisky this Xmas due to impending gifts apparently. So needed a "gulping" Scotch until then. Thank you Aldi. This is perfectly nice. Perhaps not as peaty as last year's batch, but great value.

Bit of a secret apparently but online speculation seems to settle on Aldi dealing with Dalmore or Fettercain? It's just Aldi's generic name for their whisky whether Speyside, Highland or Islay).

It's £40 and I think it's excellent
I opened mine tonight and agree. It's very nice; reminiscent of an older Glenfarclas.
Bargain.
Finally found a review for it to... https://thewhiskyphiles.com/2016/11/17/glen-marnoc...
