Just realised I didn't post a reply about the festival post - looks like you had a good time and got to try a lot of different things. Thanks for the quick summary of each bottle.

No shouting from me - I agree. It's good, but nothing like the prices that are being paid for the bottles now.

Interesting.

The 12 year old is beautiful.

What was missing?

I was expecting big flavours and big tastes. What I was, erm, not that!

I recently purchased the Macallan 12 sherry oak. It's been a few years since I've had an age statements Macallan, so I was really looking forward to opening this.

Wow.

What a bland, disappointing dram. frown

Not unpleasant, but just completely mediocre with no rea redeeming features. For the same money, the recently departed GlenDronach 15 Revival blows it outbid the water in every sense.

A triumph of brand over substance. Avoid.

YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT!!!! Send the bottle onto me wink I think it is a lovely whisky but, as NRS says, not worth the prices being asked today. I can understand why you are not keen on it as it is very subtle (a bit like some Lowlands which I find a little too boring).

No problem! I did enjoy the day.

I think that is the problem for me - I do like big flavours compared to subtle ones. Sounds like the same issue as Mr Trophy had with it? I haven't tasted too many Yamazaki bottles, but the 18, 12 and 2015 special edition were good whiskies but just not giving me enough of a flavour hit for the current pricing. They're certainly not bad, just not the ones I would spend money on. If spending a extra on a Japanese bottle I would go for Yoichi. The NAS Yamazaki is very good for the price though (at least it was in Japan, not looked at the prices over here recently), although not as good as the aged statements.

P.S. It wasn't that I didn't like it, just it didn't stand out for me... sadly for you it was still good enough to finish, biggrin

I've ordered the new Ice Edition Highland Park. I'm supposed to be buying less due to some house work, but it was impossible not to buy when the marketing combined Norway, mountains, ice and whisky - basically my life these days, biggrin

A couple of articles on Google suggest it's a fairly common thing they do, but I've been unable to find any examples other than Hibiki 12 and one of the Yamazaki (which are even more rare)

I mentioned it on the previous page. I found it better than the 12 but not as complex as the 16. 'Tis worth trying as it is very nice.

Ah, yes, managed to miss that . Interesting, my concern though is that they will use it as an excuse to shift the price of 16 upwards . We shall see.

Ta!

My local Tesco still have 8 bottles of the Hibiki 12 50 cl bottles at £37. The online prices for this are stupid now. You should try the Hibiki Harmony. This is a NAS version with the same plum like fruity tastes. Easier to find and cheaper

I have a Hibiki 12 50cl, an unopened 12 70 cl and a Hibiki 17 70cl but youre not having those :-)

Other bottles you should be able to find easily include the NAS Ymazaki and Hakushu. The 12 and upwards of these are getting silly prices now.

Limited stock here of the 12 assuming its up to date

A word of warning. Never try the 21yo Hibiki. You'll end up selling body parts for what it is going for.

Have you tried the Yoichi 15 or 20 year olds? 20yo has to be one of my favourite whiskies. Also the single casks that I have tasted have been amazing. Problem is almost all of those are £400+!
