Flat iron is brilliant, but, the one I went to (think they have 2 now) only had space for about 25 covers. Without being able to book a table you're often waiting for hours for your meal.
Not sure the one you have been too, but the soho one now runs a system where by you give them your number and they text you when the table becomes available you can then pop off for a pint.

Ive never waited more than 30/45mins although that is at lunchtime.

It does drive me mad that you cant book at these sorts of places though, it drives me bloody bonkers its ridiculous.

That said for a good steak, cheep, no frills in and out it does the job.

Fair point....I was there on a Saturday evening and again mid-week evening....

We did exactly that but I was starving and the excessive amount of beer consumed in the break made me rather bloated!

I've been to the Bromley one which used to be a carvery called the Pickhurst. It was ok. Nothing particularly special and a bit strong on prices.
Aaah
The Yuckhurst as my daughter christened it.

Thanks for the heads up
Formulaic ste dreamed up by pub chains.

And there in a nutshell is the issue with all "chains". They can be great or they can be awful, no two are the same because it is all down to who is running them. the Pickhurst has been a hole for years. rebranding isnt going to change anyting if its the same people cooking and running the joint.

I have been to a few Miller and Carters, some have been good, some have been average.

Not sure I would call their prices strong when im inside the M25 though

Likelihood is, if the staff haven't changed, it will be as rubbish as the Harvester which was the point I was making above. If they want to make a real success of them there needs to be serious consistency.

Think Glasgow must be a good example as still gets good reviews online. Was the last day of my sons summer holidays so had a boys day out getting new rugby boots for school. I was with my 13 year old son with blond hair at 1.

Out of interest was it previously a Harvester or something else? Out of all the ones I have been to, those that are ex-Harvesters, have been far the worst and the others have been good to great (and yes I have been to the London places like Hawksmore, Mash, Smith and Wollensky, Goodman etc.)

I am fairly convinced so far that if they were ex-harvesters and the kitchen staff were retained that is the core of the poor food in those establishments.

Think it was an old bank as the entrance to the toilet door is an old safe. They seemed to have spent a lot of money on it as it's a massive old building with big glass dome in the roof and quite fancy inside for a chain.

upstairs at the grill is by far the best steak place we have been to outside of the US, way better than hawksmoor or gaucho or cau locally. Up there with Lugers, Berns or Keens.

Anyone tried the one in Poole? Location seems to hint at a previous life? It's very close to where I will be visiting pretty regularly for the next 6 years so if its any good it could become a regular if its any good.

Are you referring to Keens Chophouse in NY? If so, excellent fare there fella! Had a few school reunion dinners there (for alumni of my school in SE LOndon).

It was pretty good, I still prefer Cau in Wilmslow - I'm not really a steak guy though so i like that the steaks at Cau are a bit more exotic with Chimichurri etc. Preferred the triple cooked beef dripping chips at Hawksmoor, but overall Upstairs at the Grill was very good, great drinks menu, and not many places serve haggis fritters!

The one right on the big roundabout not far from Tower Park?
If so, the last couple of times I visited the service was shocking and the food not as good as the first visit
(last visit was about 10 months ago though)

Yep, that's the one. Oh well, I'll give it a go for lunch and see what happens. beer
