I just find the temperature a bit lacking. If I have some hot water in the kettle I'll warm the mug up with that first and then the cold china doesn't rob the heat. Otherwise your coffee can get a bit cool too quickly. Same issues with a caffetiere to be fair...
I was always taught you should warm the cups before pouring coffee.

I have a Nespresso machine very happy with it - anyone recommend some non-OEM pod manufacturers? I drink long coffees with a dash of milk if that matters.

I've used and liked Big Cup Little Cup, Fine Coffee Club and Cafepod.

None of the above are much cheaper, but do offer a bit more variety.

I get through about 50 pods a week myself, plus another 150 pods for my office staff, we do like our coffee eek

if not much cheaper I might stick to Nespresso

My usual tipple is the Fortissio Lungo which is 31p per pod

22p here, anyone tried this company?

Yes, as above in my last post wink

Decent coffee as far as I can tell, I'm not too fussy though.

The Asda own brand pods were awful.

oops didn't read properly due to your price comment - 30% cheaper is within my bounds of "much cheaper"

will put in a small order and give them a try

Recommendation for any machine you go for - follow cleaning and descaling routines to schedule. You tend to find coffee machines do not get as hot when scaled up if you live in an area of hard water. Have to descale ours every 2-3 months but then you notice the difference in both speed of delivery and temperature.
Tip I was given by gaggia service UK was to use bottled water only (for my Gaggia Classic). Mine's a hard water area & having regularly de-scaled every 3 months, now haven't needed to for about 2 years.

I've found the Lidl Nespresso pods to be worse, but much cheaper than official. The Taylors of Harrogate ones were just as good.

Pod machines are overrated IMHO, Nespresso is pretty much the best of the bunch, especially for espresso based drinks. The problem is that when you make milk-based drinks, the silly contraptions they use to froth and heat the milk are more labour intensive and require more cleanup than the steam lance found on a proper espresso machines, which and negates all of the benefits of a pod machine.

My Aeroccino makes perfect foamy hot milk for capuccino or similar in 70 seconds.

Another 15 seconds to immediatly rinse out and a further 10 seconds to dry it off.

How is that too much faff ?

We've had 3 now, and over time they get a burnt residue of milk between the wall and the knobble where the spinner sits. It's a right bugger to clean. the Lavazza equivalent the jug is separate from the heater and stainless steel so it's easy to wash.

I think some versions did have an issue, but I also think it does need extra care to keep that area clean - hence my washing out immediatly after use. Still my favourite coffee accessory though.

The latissima is even easier than both those options. Ten seconds button press, no waste and dishwasher twice a week.

Will certainly concede that that's a massive improvemnet over the kettle-like whisking devices.

Ok - so we've had the Tassimo for a week or so.

Bad things -

Some drinks are really bad, I noticed the double pod drinks like costa latte etc have a load of sugar in them. Even the creamer from milk has 7% sugar. Ok if you take sugar but I don't. So I add a splash of milk if I need it, that's fine by me.

It's not going to give a fantastic espresso like a nespresso - but as I said earlier, I'm no connoisseur so I'm Ok with that.

It's not the cheapest but that was never a driver for me (and even if it was, 25p, 30p, 50p doesn't matter compared to £2.50 from the coffee van.

Good things -

It's a drinks machine, that suits us really well - the kids are using it for hot chocolate or other drinks.

I love the variety of drinks, not just espresso. So I can have an espresso or americano or tea or loads of other things. I know I can with any other machine, but it just works and is easy to choose something to suit your mood.

Not sure about other machines but this one heats the water as it comes through which means no waiting for it to heat up unlike our previous machine.

Overall, it's very subjective - the Tassimo suits us mainly for the variety of drinks (not just coffee).

As for the coffees - well the costa americano is plain old costa coffee, fine for my morning drink but nothing special. The Jacobs ones are pretty poor, Kenco do some nice espressos and long coffees and carte noire do some lovely drinks with good varieties.

The twinings teas and chocolates are really good too.

Nope, but I would refill the water tank and pull a mugfull of hot water though to freshen up the system before brewing.

One a day is fine.

If anyone wants a Nespresso machine but doesn't want to spend a lot then this current offer might be of interest

https://www.nespresso.com/uk/en/order/machines/pix...

That's a Pixie Machine, 150 pods and free Aeroccino as a deal is normally £139, currently on special offer until 31/10 for only £69.

Think you need to check that, it's a free aerochino and 69 for the machine when you buy it and 150 pods - a good deal but not as good.

Though these deals are regularly on - it's like Gillette - cheap razors - make them buy the blades...

Keep looking at this myself. I like a good coffee, but I've always gone down the non machine route. Cafetiere, Aeropress and Bialetti are all used and all taste different.
Other than a good flat white (don't rate Costa version) I like it strong. I have looked at the Latissima for a while but probably don't need it. Bean to cup is a bit of a minefield.

Fortunately I also live a mile or so from a new start : http://www.rountoncoffee.co.uk
and by chance called through today for a freshly (like this morning) roasted bag of some 'Natural high zing Ethiopian' hippyhehe
I forget what he scribbled on the bag, but is smelt wonderful - and nothing like a plastic Pod wink
£20, and will last a month I guess.
Will check these out, do they have a cafe? Its on my cycling route so would be ideal to grab a bag of something on my way round

I was bought a Dolce Gusto Krups machine for Christmas by the mother in law.
Can’t really complain with the latte that it makes.
48 pods for £10 in Tesco atm too.
