I like a beer, but i don't want to be under the influence. Is there such a thing as an alcohol free beer that doesn't taste like ste? I haven't found one yet. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Try Bavaria zero.
This is brewed in the normal manner but develops zero alc.
I think it is currently stocked by most UK supermarkets.

Yep, not supposed to drink for medical reasons, so have tried most of the non alcohol beers.

Bavaria is a good one, although is a bit on the sweet side. I prefer Brew Dog's Nanny State (hoppy ale) and Erdinger's Alkoholfrei Weissbier. The St Miguel Zero is also good.

Beck's Blue is the most common 0% beer in bars, and it's ok if nothing else available, but much prefer the ones above.

The only one I've found that I couldn't drink was Cobra, I found it to have a really sickly sweet, pungent taste. Had to pour it down the sink.

Estrella Damm N.A.

Served ice cold, it's rather refreshing.

I notice the German alcohol free beers aren't allowed to be called 'beer' so say something like 'isotonic drink' on the label.

Also, things like the Brewdog Nanny State aren't alcohol free but 0.5% (if that makes a difference).

I had a few Free Damm's (not sure if they are the same) when on dry January, it ws my first experience of an alcohol free beer and I thought they were OK.

Drank two bottles of this one evening when I was out but had to drive. Woke up the following morning with the worst headache I've ever had.

In my youth it was an Urban Legend that drinking alcohol free beer still gave you a hangover as "it still contained the chemicals that give you a hangover".

I got a hangover after a night on Becks Blue confused

Therefore there may be some truth in that...

I couldn't disagree more. That stuff is genuinely undrinkable!

Nanny State and Becks Blue are my default choices.

Same here, that Cobra stuff was absolutely awful, tasted nothing like any beer I've ever had.

Sainsbury's Low Alcohol Czech Lager is the best zero (0.5%) lager I've found, and Becks Blue is nice too but pricey in comparison.

For low alcohol (2.8%) lager Hollandia is my favourite, and for bitter Tolly Old English Ale is good.

I will also say this is good:

Would concur with the Bavaria and Sainsbury's alcohol free, but surprised people found the Nanny State good.

I tried it a couple of weekends ago at a Brewdog in Glasgow.

Barely drinkable - tasted like cheap, bitter, cold tea - extremely unpleasant I thought.

Is it possible to take the calories out of lager to brew a diet lager that is alcohol free?
