My local Hungry Horse appears to be better value for 1/2 chicken "with two sides" than Nando's.

You get table service and it comes " served on a bed of sizzling onions and peppers with a side of coleslaw"...

71p less!!

I can't tell the difference in taste and/or quality. I think Nando's is a marketing success and that's all. I'd rather not go there unless forced.

Ok so I'm a northerner and I go on a few rules.

If I have to get up from my table to order, get anything or pay I don't tip.

Any service charge is politely asked to be removed and if device is good will be given to the serving staff in cash.

Up here it's not so much of an issue but if I were in a more expensive area I'd be more inclined to top for average service. Up here the minimum wage isn't slave labour and most serving staff are students who dont have many real outgoings.

How is this pertinent to whether you tip or not?

We're all tight and no one lives in a dingy 1 bed apartment that's worth £500k.

i'm guessing but, cost of living? its higher in central london then up north (i'm guessing). I have no idea if a nandos in london will apply some sort of london weighting to someones pay compared to elsewhere.

And I'm guessing it's to do with the rest of the post that you snipped.

Just an odd sort of qualifier.

"Ok, so I'm blue eyed with dark hair and here are my thoughts on tipping..."

Northeners, especially Yorkshiremen & scotsmen, are known for being "careful" with money.

Yeah, but that's just folklore/nonsense, right?

Nobody is actually genetically predisposed to being careful with money based on the location they were born!

I don't think so - tightest bds I've had on eBay were from Yorkshire!

bks, Scottish people are generous tippers. This is known from being a Scottish person and having a missus that works in a kitchen.

We don't do the American thing where tipping is expected but decent service at a restaurant or pub will be rewarded.

Kindly keep your 70's club comedian stereotypes to yourself wink

ETA I rarely eat in Nandos but I don't think I've tipped there. If they had a tip jar or whatever at the counter I'd probably throw a couple of quid in.

It's always easy telling the difference between a scotsman and a ray of sunshine... biggrin

Other regional stereotypes available on request.

Not genetically but (arguably) if you're raised in a culture where people are careful with money you adopt similar traits.

If only there was a breakdown of cars purchased on PCP by region... biggrin
