Does anyone like pork pie? It is quite a recent thing for me, but a local pub serves really nice ones with whole grain mustard. I can't get enough of them! Tried pork pies from the supermarkets but they just aren't the same.
Anyone local to stoke know where i can get nice ones from? My only idea is try and find a decent farm shop and see what they have on offer.

Pork pies are one of my favourite foods - especially with a hardboiled egg in the middle.

Not sure of anywhere near Stoke that does them, but the best ones I have had are from a pub in Bewdley, Worcestershire called the Great Western - they do a whole variety of different flavours of pork pie and they are exquisite.

Small pies taste better than medium or big pies. They can be too rich and get sickly very quickly.

They often have too much salt in. The kind of amounts that mean you can't really taste the pork.

If you're buying from a supermarket I'd start with one from Melton Mowbray and you need to pay a bit for a good one.

Another pork pie fan, love them. Thanks for the Bewdley tip, I'm not too far from there so will have to check it out at some point or another.

I love a pork and pickle pie, not just like them, proper adoration. but it's a tough call of the pinacle of hand-held meat snack, the crown goes to the scotch egg.

If you are ever near Dudley I can recommend Boxleys in Wombourne. The best pork pie I have ever had, multiple award winner.

My guilty secret go-to snack. But I always feel dirty after I've eaten it!

I like mine with soft(ish) pastry, pink meat and plenty of jelly. I don't buy into the Melton Mowbray, too hard and greasy.

Skipton is quite good for pork pies.

We buy them all the time in our office, so many people are on diets we have been trying to find ways to ruin them and the trusty pork pie works everytime.

Go for pork pies from the deli counter or morrisons do some good ones, no one can resist hehe

Pork Pie

Guilty pleasure of mine, definitely.

These are perfect, you have to let them warm up to room temperature before eating though, meat is always pink and jelly is lovely. Not as pleasant straight from fridge.

Dammit now I wish I picked one up this morning!

Love a good pork pie, my grandparents used to get them from a family run butchers (Burchall's in St. Helens) that is famed for them.

I used to have them cut in half and 'glued' back together with English mustard lick

I've made them in factories. I love them. Most pork pies from the big retailers are reduced salt, to the point where they are too bland. I don't get the "too salty" comment, we in the food industry have been reducing it for years, to the point where it's too low for most people's taste.

Get them fresh when the pastry is still crisp. As to Melton Mowbray or not, well, that's up to you. Do you like your meat cured (pink) or not?

I cycled from Peterborough to Melton Mowbray and back just for a pork pie. It was totally worth it biggrin

Yep, love a pork pie too, however a scotch egg gets the nod from me too.
