Been on my to do list for ages, make a pork pie , but never seem to get round to it.

I'm not really a fan of the Dickinson and Morris pies , good qulaity, but not the recipe for my tastes.

These people turn out a corking porkie : http://www.adamsandharlow.co.uk/

Not a million miles from me in Spaldingrad. Not tackled one for a while now, which is shameful, but the last one I had was perfection!

Generally, in my experience, if a butcher makes his own, he generally goes out of his way to make it good , far superior to the mass produced gloop in supermarkets.

The Wetherby Whaler is also good at Guiseley, as is Grandpa Nichols in Ilkley (the latter is marginally better but is take out only)

Absolutley weegmans is indeed an institution. the range of pork pies is fantastic. i am partial to the ones with sage and onion stuffing on the crust. Also while there pick up some otley dragon sausages. they are to die for. the pasties are amazing too. i go regularly and also never leave without a few savoury ducks. great as a snack on there own but also fantastic crumbled into a gravy or stew. but a plain warm pork pie fresh and warm is something dreams are made of. good call on Murgatroyds too. cracking fish n chips , if eating in try the billy murgs whale. a massive piece of haddock and an absolute treat. by the way if you fancy something different turn right at the yeadon lights , go down yeadon high street and there is a place called huckleberrys diner at the bottom. a man vs food type american diner that does amazing burgers , dogs and steaks etc. i recommend the dirty dog if you like chilli with a side of corn dogs.

And this is where inter-county arguments start.

I was invited to a party with some of you West Yorkshire oiks (I'm South) that had pie and peas as the main event. I was very much looking forward to pie and peas, expecting a lovely steak and ale and some mushy peas (or even garden peas). Maybe even the odd chip as these weren't poor folk.

Oh no.

Pork pie (Stand Pie in some parts of Yorkshire but not all), WARM (FFS!) with mushy peas. All kinds of wrong and enough of an indicator that inbreeding in West Yorkshire is a genuine problem as was ever needed.

WARM PORK PIE! Floppy pastry, melted jelly. Point well and truly missed. And then bury the poor thing in hot mushy peas (I guess you may as well eradicate any last vestige of crispiness).

THIS is why the phrase Dirty Leeds came about.

Anytime my father used to get a new car - we'd wrap up the salt 'n vinegar in clingfilm, and butter some bread - drive up-to Yeadon and get Fish and Chips from "The Fountain" junction of Bayton Road and Harrogate Road/A568 - then go park up eating them out the wrapper while watching planes take-off/land @ Yeadon. That or go to Harry's @ Guisely (which is now the Wetherby Whaler) V fond memories.

I'm getting a new S3 in June - 2 hopes of doing the same ..... (and one of them is Bob) laugh

That looks awesome.

Now. How do I persuade the wife that we can have Pork Pie for dinner, served with cheesy chips, processed peas and mustard.

Must be all week's calories in one meal. I don't think she'll go for it...

Not sure about cheesy chips tbh, our chippy does battered chips, now THAT would be a week's calories.
