I’d be happier if they, and seemingly everyone else, stopped referring to Coleslaw as ‘Slaw’. It seriously hacks me off (first world problem etc).

I see coleslaw and slaw as 2 different things.
Slaw to me is just your shredded veg in whatever thin sauce.
Coleslaw is your horrible salad stuff that is 95% mayo

No, just got to blame all these trendy burger places popping up all over the place frequented by bearded tossers washing it down with some over priced "craft beer". It's a passing fad, normal service will resume in 2-3 years. Sorry about that.
Still waiting.....

I think I've worked out coleslaw. The cabbage/carrot/onion mix needs a good slug of vinegar to pickle the ingredients so you aren't eating woody cabbage or completely raw onion, and at the same time it needs just enough mayo, mustard and/or natural yoghurt to coat everything in a light dressing. The trick then I feel is to leave as long as possible before service for it all to soak and pickle nicely.

The result I get is a nice halfway house, far from the inedible thin american style slaw and the over creamy gloopy coleslaw you get in tubs from the supermarket.

One of my favourites though is an Asian style slaw with a dressing of soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar/honey, garlic, lime juice & coriander. Great combination of flavours. Goes great as a burger topping too!

McDonalds appear to have dumped their Signature burger range. I realise PH looks down at McD's generally but this was a decent option that seemed popular as a premium burger for the masses

Feels like a step backwards for McD's especially as they were trying to raise their game & compete on offerings with the likes of Five Guys and Shake Shack etc

I'm not sure McDonalds is too worried in all honesty.

They were bloody awful, when they stick to the basics they hit their target square in the predictable middle, the moment they deviate into anything vaguely "fancy" it becomes an unpredictable experience that, in my limited tests, has always been disappointing.

The basics are where they excel, the double cheeseburger is a perfectly acceptable snack, the sausage McMuffin a breakfast treat. When they try harder they general fail.

That said the double quarter and the big tasty are notable exceptions when fresh.

Agree on the unpredictability with the signature burgers. I’ve generally had them as meh to disappointing but a few weeks back we went to the one in Stratford and it had been made with love lol. Looked just like the one in the picture! Was fresh hot and tasty. Was getting near the end of the night so they gave my mate bonus fries and nuggets too

Finally went to Wahlburgers a few weeks ago. Have now lost the receipt, which is a shame as the actual prices at the time weren't the same as those shown online - some cheaper, some more expensive! The standard "Our" burger was c. £9 and fries c. £3. Fountain drinks £3 and wine £6 - £10 a glass. Beers £5 - £6.50 a pint with similar bottle prices.
12.5% optional service charge.
Thoughts:
Food was OK but nothing special. Only had the 'basic' burger and the meat wasn't particularly flavoursome. Fries were fine.
Full table service and the staff we dealt with were good.
Restaurant much larger than the frontage would suggest. Most seating was downstairs. Ambiance/decor OK but fairly bland. Lots of TV screens either pumping Wahlberg or showing obscure sport. No sound so they didn't really add anything!

Main problem for them is that at 5:00pm on a Saturday it was over half empty. They seem to be promoting the place with big discounts - e.g. 25% of with theatre ticket and we got 20% off everything with the Covent Garden card. Rent must be huge so I can't see them surviving long unless Capco cuts them a deal. Plenty of competition around there from ALL the usual burger suspects. Still, I thought it was much better than Shake Shack which is always rammed!

ETA: Found receipt. Prices we paid now align with online menu. 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 glasses wine was £49.50 including the service charge (eek!) and we paid £39.60 after discount.

I know you got a discount but £50 RRP is an absolute rip.

We had two glasses of wine @ £10 each (the most expensive weeping) but I can't disagree!

12.5% service charge to be served food in a basket and paper tub. I know it’s an American company, but we have minimum wage here, No thanks.

Not a big fan of Bleeker at all, far to small and don’t taste that great. Not a big fan of Honest either as the rosemary fries are odd and the herbs clash with the herbs in the onion rings. Shake shack is just awful.

I have never really found a burger chain that I think is wow. I like the chips at 5 guys but the burgers all taste the same regardless of what toppings you have.

The simple solution to the Bleeker burger being too small, is have 2. It's often an end of night snack - handy they have one right near Cannon Street station. Nom nom nom.

I also happen to think Honest is bit crap.

Oh I do but the big problem for me with all these chains trying to outdo each other with their signatures and USP’s is that often they are a taste clash. The honest burger fries and onion rings issue above being a prime example.

In fairness (although I certainly wouldn't be in a rush to return and prefer Honest) it was £9 for the burger and £3 for the fries without the service charge. Those prices aren't out of step with the other burger places in and around Covent Garden (McDonalds etc. excepted).

But yeah, £50 for 2 basic burgers and fries and a couple of drinks does sound a bit Top Trumps. smile

Anyone else been?
