Going to defend the brioche, the butteriness and sweetness work well with a decent burger if you are not loading up on extras. Works very well, but then I don;t care about the fact they became fashionable which is almost certainly the main reason people actually object. I discovered how well they work with burgers almost 20 years ago, well before they became fashionable, when my only option was to buy a brioche loaf and slice it.
I suspect the anti-brioche agenda comes from the same people who moan about burgers being stacked too high, or burgers with 'weird' toppings.

They basically don't like modern burgers, and that's fine too.
Yup totally. Of course tonight I'm having burgers and serving them in ..... well ok a stone baked white bun and a ancient grain bun biggrin

We love brioche for burgers. We only tried it when our supermarket ran out of plan burger buns, and haven't looked back since.

I had no idea they were fashionable!

We're getting to the (pleasant) point where it's now difficult to pick which of the decent burger places to go to in Leeds now but I've opted for Meat Liquor the last few times and been really happy.

This is the £11.50 "Bacon Cheese" and while I prefer their "Green Chilli Cheese" it made a nice change.

https://meatliquor.com/menu/#menus-25

Green Chilli...

Bread Meat Bread in Edinburgh was really good too, I had their "Posh BMB" which had smoked mozzarella, mushroom, bacon, onion and truffle mayo, £12, service was top notch and everything the group had was really good.

I also had a McDonald's double cheeseburger recently, that was a predictably acceptable snack but lacking in presentation.

I'm wondering if they'll ever stop doing a Big Mac and fries for £1.99, been at this price for a few years now.
Probably 20 pence worth of ingredients.
Probably not and totally irrelevant.
McDonalds in 'We make a profit' shocker.

I think you missed the point, it is the economies of scale and quality of ingredients used. Nothing about the profit, maybe chill out a bit.

It doesn't matter. It's a burger and fries for £1.99.
It's cheap, fast and tasty. Now and again I push it into my face and go back to work.
You seem to continually misread what threads are all about.

McDonalds clearly makes pots of money. My local branch was put up for sale in May. Priced at £1.8m for the franchise and everything and included the 10 years left on the lease in its current location. Sold in two weeks

Meat Liquor is a good business, and it's run very well. The guy who owns it is an interesting chap, but he's very passionate about his food and I'm really pleased to see it grow.

You can have "tasty for two quid", but in the grand scheme of things it's really bland food.

I guess that depends on one’s personal definition of tasty. Someone eating this stuff daily is never gonna eat starred food and vice versa

They sell millions a day, that was I was getting at.

If anyone is interested watch YouTube video "food insider," breaks down the ingredients, definitely an eye opener.

That may be, but it's tasty and so cheap you don't give a second thought to eating there.

My mother is pretty much a vegetarian (eating habits not moral choice), but loves a McD's cheeseburger as a treat!

Bizarre. Choosing food cooked with the least care and attention possible for a meat treat is different...

Primark is one of the largest clothing retailers in the country. That doesn't make their clothes good quality.

Not going to disagree with you.

Like craft beers, there is no real excuse for buying mass produced food.

The spectrum between McDonald's and the Michelin guide is so large that the James Woods telescope would struggle to fit it all in.

Funny enough it was similar for me all that time ago, except I had previously used a stale croissant for a roast beef salad as it was all around so I knew it should work, and just hoped I was right.

We live in a tourist town in the Peak District. Burger and chips now seems to be £18 everywhere.

£8 cheeseburger and chips, delicious. O'Hannes - West Bridgford (Notts), an area not known for it's cheap cuisine.

Now that looks ideal. If youre doing burger and chips, you want dirty chips, not finely boiled new potatoes chopped up.
