Just had an incredible buffalo chicken burger and seasoned fries from the smoke bloke in Nuneaton.
Didn't get a pic because I was too hungry but £12 and I want to eat it again asap.

The spectrum between McDonald's and the Michelin guide is so large that the James Woods telescope would struggle to fit it all in.
You could manage an argument with yourself! Not sure anyone was holding it up as an example as an excellent burger. I don’t think you’ll do better for the price.

My local branch was put up for sale in May. Priced at £1.8m for the franchise and everything and included the 10 years left on the lease in its current location. Sold in two weeks
It doesn’t work like that, so not sure where you got your information from

OK so it looks like the story was misrepresented now I go back and have a look. The 1.8m was for the building that the restaurant is located in and where McDonalds have the tenancy for the next at least 10 more years

Not in the UK at least.

The thing that our Volvo mate is missing is the key to McDonalds success isn't being good but being consistent. A Micky D's cheeseburger is the same no matter where and when you get it. 2 am in Farnborough or 4 PM in Kentucky or that rarest of McD's, 8:30 PM at Bogota airport just before they shut. With McDonalds you always know what you're going to get.

However some people just have an axe to grind about them and hate seeing others enjoy some simple food.

Also there are deffo worse burgers than McDonalds regardless of price.

We're getting to the (pleasant) point where it's now difficult to pick which of the decent burger places to go to in Leeds now but I've opted for Meat Liquor the last few times and been really happy.

This is the £11.50 "Bacon Cheese" and while I prefer their "Green Chilli Cheese" it made a nice change.

Green Chilli...

Bread Meat Bread in Edinburgh was really good too, I had their "Posh BMB" which had smoked mozzarella, mushroom, bacon, onion and truffle mayo, £12, service was top notch and everything the group had was really good.

I also had a McDonald's double cheeseburger recently, that was a predictably acceptable snack but lacking in presentation.

Shake shack and bleecker both good but the deliveroo prices are taking the Michael. Best part of 30 quid for double burger, chips and shake!

I think eat in would be around 20 quid?

It's even more than that, it's convenience. They're on every town street corner and all the way down the M1 from start to finish.

They're less than snobs, they're dicks.
If I want fast and shyte it's a burger. If I go out for a decent meal it's not a burger.
Burgers are fast food, not quality. I eat all foods for what they are.
If I go into a pub and it doesn't look like they do great food I'll go for a burger. You just know they'll make a mess of something decent on the menu, but you can't go far wrong with a burger so order that and you won't be disappointed.

Sounds more like it, if our leasehold Drive Thrus come up for sale we tend to buy them.

Exactly this. Cheap, consistent, and omnipresent. I don't remember the last time I travelled and didn't have a McD's at least once.

biggrin if I am not sure of a place and they have scampi on the menu that’s my safety choice!

I genuinely enjoy a double cheeseburger from McDonald’s and it’s a 10th of the cost of most burger places, yes it’s different but it’s good for a cheap bite when hungry. Bonus points for not even having to get out the car to collect it smile

I can attest to that.

Travelled a few times where I knew I couldn't risk finding out whether I'd have any issues with the local food as I need to be at work the next day.

McDonald's to the rescue every time.

Amazes me the consistency that a fiver can buy you almost anywhere.

Some of the burgers on this thread look amazing but something in me just baulks at the thick end of twenty or thirty quid for a burger and chips.

I suspect the anti-brioche agenda comes from the same people who moan about burgers being stacked too high, or burgers with 'weird' toppings.

They basically don't like modern burgers, and that's fine too.
Nah I like modern burgers, the flavours, variations etc, but this thing of stacking them stupidly high (so you can't even get your hands around it let alone your gob) is bullst. Make them wider instead!

£18 for a burger, potatoes and a lemonade at 'the pick up point' in Swindon. Terrible name for a restaurant but you could actually eat the burger without it falling apart. I'll give in an 8/10.

When I travel, I feel it's a duty to try the local cuisine.

Love a McOz, likewise a McDeutschland.lick

18 quid isn't paying for the food
You can use the same argument for steak - a steak that costs a tenner at a good butcher will be 35-50 quid in Hawksmoor / Goodmans
Offal that a butcher will throw out, a French restaurant will turn into a 30 quid starter

Tell me you've never been in a restaurant kitchen without telling me.
