I really like Honest Burgers, simple menu for dinner and always tastes great. I’m probably tempting fate but I’m yet to have a bad one.

Had my first experience of Shake Shack on Friday - colour me pretty impressed, very close to 5 Guys, slightly cheaper but less choice on the toppings. I'd still rate 5 Guys as tastier, but it was damned close. So close in fact, I may have to go again to make up my mind smile

Few others of note I've had over the years:

Almost Famous (Manchester) - went here a couple of years ago and am determined to go back, some of the creations were interesting to say the least (Cheerios in a breakfast burger), A bit topping heavy, but great atmosphere and no concerns about the service when we were there.

Heart Attack Grill (Vegas) - OK it's effectively a massive gimmick, and would give anti-Obesity campaigners a...um..heart attack, but the burger I had there was damned tasty. Was freshly prepared with good ingredients, and its a fairly entertaining place if you like that sort of thing.

Handmade Burger Co - only seen these in Birmingham, sort of like a nice GBK. The Jimmy's Farm range are superb, really good beef.

Wimpy - we still have one of these next to us - need I say more? smile

Handmade rated the worst amongst our burger eating group in Reading. Honest the best.

Discovered a Wimpy quite near home - just next to Shugborough, so handy for a mixed-class experience. Visited with Mrs P for my birthday lunch on Wednesday. Superb. Not expensive, kind of diner style, although there's no inside seating, just an order window and outside tables. I had a Quarterpounder with cheese and Mrs P had a Spicy Beanburger. We both had tea (PG Tips). £14 all in I think. Cracking stuff!

Yep, our group are big Honest fans, too. Had high hopes for 7 Bone but it's usually dead in Reading which detracts from the experience - the one in Camberley is good, though.

Milford, great one been open for 30+ years(my mum used to go), cooked fresh to order makes all these modern ones look very pretentious. Then a nice walk up the chase.

I still attest that 5 guys are the absolute daddies when it comes to take away burgers.

The winner for me though is a costco aberdeen angus burger. Downside is I have to cook it myself hehe

excellent wings/burger at the White hart Witley. I noticed they have a new US bbq/smoker. It looks like a giant cannon on a trailer. It can hold 300lb of meat. Two more incoming such is the volume.

How do you rate 7Bone?

7bone if you like it dirty are good. A double patty is a satisfyingly messy affair. But as above it's always pretty dead in the Reading branch. Probably rate them similar to 5guys - but obviously less customisation. Having said that I like my burgers quite classic so I'm happy with a Ronalds revenge at 7bone.

I had my first shake shack burger recently while in New York..By far the best no faff burger i've had. And the chips are the bks. Nice char, succulent patty, delicious potato bread bun. Juicy and flavoursome. Could easily polish off a few.

I'm looking forward to trying it out in April.....The missus just wants to see me being publicly flogged but that's ok.

If by dead you mean empty and quiet... I consider that a bonus smile

Is the food quality, I liked the one at Camberley.

I work near Camberley, so have been there a few times and it is always good food but the service can be a bit slow at times.

The one in Reading is the same quality but, as I said earlier, it is usually dead. We actually walked out of it on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm when we realised we'd be the only people eating there! Saying that, a few Monday's ago it looked rammed when I left the gym.

Funny that a lot of people are saying that Shake Shack is a good burger. Personally, I thought it was a complete let down. More like eating a sweet, meaty cake than a burger. Five Guys is ok but too many people go overboard on the toppings. Keep it simple.

Have nee tried Shake Shack... But agree with the toppings. KISS principle works on burgers too. Meat, cheese, no more than 2 sauces (except if that is ketchup, mustard and mayo), no more than 3 or 4 salad or extra items. Bun made from bread... not fking brioche.

With my 5G, it's usually just mustard and Ketchup with lettuce and sometimes jalapeno.

When I make my own burgers at home, ketchup and mustard go on the patty (which is served cheese side down on the bun) mayo spread on the top half of the bun, salad is then used to separate the condiments.

If you're ever in Amsterdam, I recommend this place: http://bar-b.nl/

Been a few times, always pretty decent. Lots of choice when you build your own burger - even hemp, if that is your thing. http://bar-b.nl/build-burger/

This is the Wimpy I was referring to. In fact, I'm there right now, having just ordered a Quarter Pounder with Cheese...
