I have tried one and I do eat them occasionally, but only when I fancy eating something sloppy and a bit nasty. They really are not a better burger.

The reason for suggesting that you try one without the toppings is so that you can actually taste the patty, which will then allow you to make a realistic assessment of the quality of said patty. They're really not very nice, the toppings are there to mask the taste of the beef. No shooting of feet going on here.

I fear the capatains wrath as I'm sure most do who have the temerity to have a different opinion than him, but 5 guys imo isn't a better burger. There ok. Not unpleasant but nothing special and certainly not worth the price. They under season (if at all) something mcds don't now and find them bland.

In that proce point they should be very nice not just ok.

Shake shack, smash and others are better imo and incomparable to bleecker et al again at similar price.

Maybe I'm going wrong on the topping choices.

The hot dog on the other hand I find excellent. And the generosity if the fries is good.

Amazed to see In N out criticised. Their food is light years from McDonald’s. Not comparable at all. It’s also amazingly cheap, at least it was last time I ate it in 2019.
Tried a burger place in Brighton on Saturday which I thought was excellent. It’s almost next door to 5 Guys. The Salt Shed (not to be confused with the Salt Room, also in Brighton) had their burger with pastrami. Really nice. Not at all keen on 5 guys. Meat routinely mediocre.

It’s amazingly cheap in the US. How much do you think it would be if it was over here? Yes they are better than McDonald’s basic burgers but a large driver of the hype around them is the price and that won’t happen here. We have seen that with five guys, slim chickens and Wendy’s

5 years have passed.

You are looking about $6.20 - $6.50 for a dd.
You can get a combo for about $10-11.

In 2019 that same combo would have been maybe $6.

Their burgers are decent though, but the fries I do not rate. Any style.

Maccy D's I don't count as a restaurant, so we'll leave that where it is, the last burger I had off of a menu was delicious, caramelised onions, 2 slices of unpretentious cheese, a medium rare patty and a soft roll and a whole pickle topped it off nicely, with chips €10.50.

Tried Wingstop in Kingston a month ago when my nieces were over. I must say I really enjoyed it. Maybe more of a snack than a meal bearing in mind I'm powerfully built.

Decent value, a very friendly team and the place was buzzing.

I'll definitely go again as I'm a fiend for chicken wings.

Isn’t that Poorboys the place to go in Kingston now? Someone I know travelled up from Hook to go there!!

There's one in Canary Wharf (Market Halls). It's very good, you are looking at about 14 quid with fries, but then it's better (value) than spending 10 at Pilpel for a falafel

I imagine 5 guys in the UK is different to the US but I still don’t think the US 5 guys is pinnacle burger. I don’t know if they have changed something because my first 5 guys had me convinced it was amazing.

In N out however wasn’t great. We don’t have them on the East Coast so when in Hollywood we tried it. My son was desperate because of YouTube hype. The burger wasn’t great and the fries were odd. They tasted like cardboard.

It could have been a bad day. I remember 20+ years ago I stopped at a McDonalds in Stockport and it was the best McDonald’s burger I’ve ever had. Not sure why it was different but everyone agreed it was so much better than usual.

If I have to get something quick I still go to McDonald’s. It’s rare now because their prices have gone crazy where I live.

the problem with Poor Boys is that there is always a queue for a table, and it's an hour plus wait to go there anywhere near peak time.

We used to go there a lot when it first opened, and it is good, but not good enough to be worth an hour of queuing.

How does the fries portion size of BBB compare to Five Guys? i've had lunch at FG canary wharf many times and I always order the smallest portion as it still comes with plenty.

At one point KFC were considering opening 'metro' restaurants, smaller places with less seating (like most subways), they were going to open one near the subway & tesco in south quay...but it never happened.

Not as big, but still plenty
From what I recall it was some variant of angry fries i.e. lots of seasoning.

1 x Bacon Flavour (6oz beef patty, Swiss and American cheese, iceberg, pickled red onions, gherkins, smoked streaky bacon and burger sauce in a toasted potato roll)

1 x Brisket Flavour (6oz beef patty, Swiss and American cheese, iceberg, pickled red onions, gherkins, oak smoked beef brisket in barbecue gravy, chipotle mayo, in a toasted potato roll)

1 x Buttermilk fried boneless chicken thigh pieces in BBQ sauce

1 x House Fries

I had the brisket, Mrs 48k had the bacon. Possibly the best burger I've ever eaten, but very very messy. Couldn't manage the chicken thighs.
