Just cooking a large (3 kilo) gammon joint, how long should it keep for, in the fridge?

Any ideas anyone?

Should last a week although mine never survived more than 2 or 3 days when the kids were home to attack them. Slow cooked in cider with a handful of chillies and a few lumps of ginger, irresistible.

Properly wrapped it will last 7 days in a fridge, after that it starts to decline rapidly. You can get away with carving off the dodgy looking bits but by 10-12 days its had it really.

If you don't think you will use it all in one go slice it, wrap carefully and it will freeze well. Not so much now but I used to do this all the time, pull a pack out on Sunday evening and it makes sandwiches for packed lunches for a week.

Chunk it up and make a lovely chicken and ham pie smile

Well, it was ham egg and chips yeaterday, and just to be indulgent, again tonight.

I've cut the gammon joint into 3 and now is happily freezing.

Thanks fior the guidance all.

These offer great value for sandwich fillings- I cook one a week and use it accordingly plus it works well in white sauce pasta dishes.
