I have tried to plant Basil load so of times before. Within a couple of weeks it ends up totally stripped. It's not slugs, it looks like midges as it gets peppered with holes.

What is the best way to grow as I am about to plant some in a very sunny spot in the garden. It's always been sunny where I have planted it before but its always dead in a few weeks.

You might be better off growing it indoors, it doesn't like cold and it will allow you to keep the peskie bugs off it. I've had reasonable success in a greenhouse for the last couple of years albeit during summer months only.

I put some in a planter last year and it got stripped. Replanted it (just those pots from Sainsburys), put slug pellets down, no problems. Does need replanting each spring though as it won't survive winter outdoors.
