Best High End / Fine Dining Indian Restaurant - London

Chutney Mary on St James's Street is pretty good.
They even have a philosophy. Apparently.

Tayyabs in Whitecapel all day long, maybe not exactly fine dining and the queue gets insane but the food is fantastic.
It's pretty fking far from fine dining it's like eating in a nightclub. That post has really tickled me.
I love Tayyabs, and was once a weekly regular. But I can't imagine a restaurant experience that's further from "High End / Fine Dining".
ETA- Cinnamon Club would be my recommendation.

I went to this place with some London-based friends and really could not understand the hype. I am far from a food snob but this is nothing other than a bog-standard curry house, I can only assume the folk queueing outside have never been to one before.

This. Don't go to Tayyabs (or Lahores) and order a standard curry - the lamb chops and grill starters are where the action is at!
Be that as it may, and I agree btw... try the dry meat... its still about as fking far from fine dining as you can get and therefore way off topic NDA said:

Another vote here for Chutney Mary. We always load up on the excellent starters. They even have a philosophy. Apparently.

I would add the sag aloo to the lamb chops suggestion though.

They're not lamb. Have you seen the size of them? Clearly mutton which is not lamb
Anyhow, my vote goes to Chutney Mary. Nice setting, nice enough food. Quite a hike in pricing when they moved from Chelsea to St James'.
That's what gets me about Chutney Mary. Was much better before they were sold into the Masala Zone group whatever its called Anyhow, my vote goes to Chutney Mary. Nice setting, nice enough food. Quite a hike in pricing when they moved from Chelsea to St James'.
Another vote for Gymkhana. All my old school mates are all born around the same time in June so we normally go to a decent restaurant once a year to celebrate. Gymkhana was really nice (we opted for the wine pairing too which made it easier). Think the taster menu for 6 or so courses ?

The concept here is that you get the usual cooking but pay unusual prices....In the parlance of those awful poor people, it's called taking the piss....

Thank you for your concern, but don't worry, I do understand.

Somewhat subjective no matter how much money you have. In the parlance of those awful poor people, it's called taking the piss....
The best restaurants really do take food to other levels. There's a place in the world for everything from street food through to the best fine dining.
They all offer something unique. But all are also capable of taking the piss....
I wouldn't want to think I'll end my days not being able to have either end of the spectrum again.
Not everyone will appreciate such things of course. I don't appreciate celery. Many do.
