Mcdonalds new ordering system
Discussion
Ronald McDonald houses are amazing, couple of friends had to use them.
Totally off topic but Can you find out the product/spec of the dark grey ceiling tile used in stores - seen it in Kidderminster. I like it and may use for a new store being built. It’s rectangular rather than square.

I'm all for technology but when employers of low paid unskilled workers like McDonald's are working hard to reduce the number of people they employ, that's a bigger worry than waiting 14 minutes for a burger IMO. Same thing as automated checkouts. Some kind of universal basic income will have to happen in the next 20 years I reckon.
It hasnt got anything to do with reducing numbers of staff. Putting the kiosks in has shifted staff numbers to other areas. In fact there is a need now to have additional staff as stores now offer table service, delivery and a wider range of food. As you can still use a till and speak to a staff member, this aspect hasn't been removed.Adding things onto items is currently on trial and should be rolled out in 2018. The kiosks were introduced as an addition to the mobile app. You can place your order and pay for it on your mobile then scan the QR code as you enter. The order is then transferred to the software in the kitchen and it's slotted into the Drive through and front counter orders.

To be honest the operation side of our business isn’t my forté but I don’t foresee us going fully self service. I do know of some other new initiatives that we’ll be rolling out to make ordering easier and more convenient.
One of our VPs frequents Pistonheads and could well be reading this thread, as well as at least one of our franchsees. One of them may be along soon to comment...

I think that the McDonalds in Liverpool Street station has now been switched to the new ordering system. It closed for nearly a month, and I think it has just re-opened. Haven't been in yet.
It was always massively busy - to the point where you could barely move inside - so it will be interesting to see whether the new system makes it easier to get in and out in less than 30 mins...

The problem with the automated ordering is the lack of an option to ask for the items to be freshly cooked. I don't mind waiting whilst it is, but I do mind soggy cold fries or burgers.
So a good proportion of the time when I have used the automated ordering, the food isn't up to standard so it gets returned, thrown away and replaced.

You send back McDonald's if it's not up to snuff? So a good proportion of the time when I have used the automated ordering, the food isn't up to standard so it gets returned, thrown away and replaced.

I just order with no onions, guaranteed fresh every time. Bugs me when they don't salt/season that fries though. So a good proportion of the time when I have used the automated ordering, the food isn't up to standard so it gets returned, thrown away and replaced.

That is probably because I just asked for fries without salt.PF62 said:

I thought the whole idea of the new system is that everything is cooked to order unlike the warmers of old where it could have been sitting for 10 mins? I know the fries are still done in batches though so at non busy times they might be a touch cold. KFC imo hold the trophy for regularity if cold fries though So a good proportion of the time when I have used the automated ordering, the food isn't up to standard so it gets returned, thrown away and replaced.
I don't mind the system but it only works in the branches that have the touch screen ordering system. The one in Ealing Broadway doesn't and you basically have to queue for ages just to order and also wait for the food to get prepared, to make matters worse, people just loiter around and you end up having a mass of people not knowing when their turn is.
I've had to turn around and walk out a few times coz of this.

Given McDs have wireless networks I'd have thought we're not far away from having a phone app that you use to order and pay for your food.
Like this?https://www.mcdonalds.com/gb/en-gb/good-to-know/in...
Free medium soft drink the last time i used it, I paid £1.99 for a full meal (big mac and fries with the receipt code from the survey - takes a few minutes, and the free drink).
I do love a McDonalds and I'm a regular for breakfast 2 or 3 times a week and a full blow out once or twice a month but I'm not overly impressed with this system. Whilst some aspects are positive it does just seem like change for change sake which McDonalds seem to excel at. As already stated it's great for dodging those that are dithering at the checkout but in the past when ordering breakfast I would get my hot drink straight away which would give me a moment to get the milk and sugar sorted by which time the rest of my meal would be ready so straight away it's costing me time.
It also means I can no longer have tea with my breakfast because I take it black which means I don't want the bag sitting in it for too long. Now they prepare it immediately and then leave it stewing just out of reach whilst waiting for the rest of my order to catch up. The whole process just seems slower, I've already blacklisted one of my local outlets after twice in a week finding myself waiting an age for my sausage and egg mcmuffin.
The double drive through thing would be OK if they also had two employees manning them but increasingly it seems just one person is manning both. I also wonder if there have been any punch-ups in the DT lane when two people order at the same time and meet at the merge point? Maybe that's why increasingly they only take one order at a time.

All restaurants should have the updated system by the end of this year.I've had to turn around and walk out a few times coz of this.
McD's has recently launched new sizes of the Big Mac to commemorate the longevity of their ubiquitous burger. There's the Mac Junior which is a bite size nibble just big enough to get caught between your teeth and at the other end is the Grand Mac which may require a four hour jog to burn off the extra calories.
They should be available via the touchscreen ordering system. McD's link
